  • Basically I want to buy some decks mainly for scratching and beatjuggling etc.
Dont want to spend a huge amount on them, maybe about 130 max per deck.
Does anyone have any knowledge on this? bear in mind im a total beginner.
I also need an amp, mixer and speakers so could anyone point me in the right direction with these?

    any advice appreciated!
    cheers.

  • they dont call me funk master forms for nothing!

  • actually no-one calls me that - sorry i know nothing!

  • Belt drive decks suck, save for 1200s, practice.

  • People did it in the 80's / 90's. Its now largely redundant like snowboarding.

  • I know i need direct drive, and 1200s are out of my price range, unless they go on ebay for cheap?

If you don't spend loads on direct drives scratching sucks. 1200s are worth it. Numark also do some pretty good stuff although nowhere near as good as technics.

  • If you wanna be a dj just make a playlist on youtube, plug in your laptop and off you go!

Us kids from today have never even seen vinyl and can't appreciate its clearly superior sound and feel.

  • I think used 1200s are £300ish here. Not really looked.
You can get cheaper DD turntables but.. you get what you pay for. 1200s FTW

  • i know enough to know that the technics are no longer the only quality turntable on the market. they're a classic design, but not one that is hard to emulate, and there are are many good quality alternatives on the market.

  • Yes, but they are the same price or more expensive.. (edit: when I knew anything about this)

  • probably true, although you'd have thought that there'd be a few lower priced contenders.

anyway, it's all a bit dated and gay, as someone said above. Fixed wheel bikes are the new fad, not decks.

  • It's all about that mp3 shit and those special cue rekkids or software mixing or or or

  • It's all about a little box of 45s, a single turntable and very rapid changeovers in '09...

  • if you dont have ableton your not cool

  • who is not cool?
or do you mean you're not cool.

you can learn on a latop and a single deck. save some money that way.

  • if you dont have ableton your not cool

I've been fiddling with Live recently, it's pretty impressive! Triggering tracks off my midi keyboard and cross fading with a modulation wheel is a bit odd though :-s

  • @ damo

im not cool .... i know this now

  • simple punctuation. makes a world of difference.

goes and sits on pedant mountain.

  • fair, point. :)

  • It's all about that mp3 shit

    Have you considered the Pacemaker?
