  • Hello Asseenontv and everyone else on the Cambridge.forum....Hope everyone in Cambridge had a happy Crimbo and/or Harmonica.....now is any one interested in the Suffolk [May] and Essex [September] century rides?...London to Paris...lovely but needs a lot of fundraising [if one person goes then £1200...but if we raised a team of 5 the sum needed to raised becomes £5500...a discount of £500 and if we sent team of 10...then all we need to raise is 10 grand....with a whopping 2 grand discount.....perhaps in a world on the verge of a depression....such a aim is laudable but probably in Credit Crunch Britain too big an ask?...But Suffolk and Essex are affordable and..something to aim for

    Look at the link below

    http://www.action.org.uk/get_involved/cycling.php

  • how are you planning to get over the channel?

Im very interested actually, but that will depend on whether ill have something decent to ride. When do the entries have to be in?

  • If we go for the paris trip, we need to organise and train soon...Suffolk soonish...might sell out and Essex....is in september so no mad rush on that one.

  • I would like to do the Paris Trip but independently , I hate fundraising , its depressing enough watching the charity lot operating in front of my pitch all day. I know they're all worthy causes , just a bit sad that the public has to chip in as well as pay taxes , lottery, private medical, and insurance . I don't fancy hitting up my friends and family for a grand so i can have the pleasure of cycling to Paris.

  • I totally understand and deep down agree with you.....so lets skip the British bit....We could visit Normandy and pay respects to the late great Jaques Anquetil...who is buried in one of its little villages!

  • I'd prefer that any day,the big organized events are a bit like package holidays . You start feeling like mooing whilst you're moving . Better to strike out on your own . The Norman love us , well they used to when we went there in the 70's . Probably set fire to our bikes now . i'd be offended to be called a "Rost Beef" though, being a veggie an all.

  • Anquetil is buried in the village of Quincampoix, north of Rouen so we can visit his grave and pay our respects to the ghost of Joan Of Arc in Rouen itself.....is it just me...but Of...is an unusual middle name!

We can still do the Suffolk ride...that is a week after the S&S cyclosportive and the Essex ride in September though......no details of that yet.

I have emailed the organisers of the Squires & Spires cyclosportive about the requirement to wear a helmet...and is it a requirement of entry.....i will report back when i have a reply

  • is it just me...but Of...is an unusual middle name!
