Large Flange Track Hubs

  • have just bought a new pair of Joytech large flange track hubs with sealed bearings (same as on a Bowery) quite cheaply and plan to lace them to a pair of CXP22's, my question is has anyone had experience of these entry level hubs, would they stand up to everyday use tthey seem to be machined ok....

  • Mine lasted for 20 seconds before the bearings gave up.

  • Entry level seems to be mainly Formula and System X.

  • Are these not the same as the forumula/novatech/sjs ones?

Anyway, I've got a bowery and I"m a proper fat bastard who rides the puddle and potholed strewn streets of Edinburgh (not like the sunbathed streets of silk in London) and I've never had any problems 6 months on.

  • As long as the bearings are a good fit in the hub (which they almost definitely will be!) then what is to go wrong. If the sealed bearing(s) goes then just replace with the best you can afford.
It's unlikely that axle is going to break, or the spokes rip through the holes and not much else to go wrong with a sealed bearing hub is there?

  • No way are they going to stand up to "every day abuse", seriously, bikes in general, let alone sealed hubs are going to with stand THAT level of abuse, I mean, everyday? Abuse? Think of the comma and the everyday abuse it took in the last sentence I wrote and now its gone because it couldn't stand up to the everyday abuse.

    Peace

You've obviously not ridden in London then?

    What he said.

If a wheel is built correctly you'll be unlikely to break it unless 1) you crash hard or 2) you are superted's nemesis and jump off shit. This holds true for most rims and hubs regardless of price. It's only when you get into lightweight shit that everyday riding might cause issues.

Ah, but I have and compared to Edinburgh, London is as smooth as the average pornstars minge.

  • you're talking out of your arse, Mr Edinburgh.

    London's roads are ATROCIOUS.

  • (not like the sunbathed streets of silk in London)

Best quote ever... you gotta be joking Mister...

  • Edinburgh was the cobbled end of the M8 when i used to make deliveries there in the 80's .They looked nice but were lethal covered in ice. Dunno if its improved much since.

  • London's "smooth" paved roads are still rougher than Edinburgh's cobbled streets.

  • even when the road is repaired, one heavily congested day will return it to it's original condition.

  • I love the repair work on Bayswater that would've been better left as a fucking hole!
What are these fuckers on when they do this shit?!

  • How many of you guys have ridden up here? I'm not talking about the cobbles, they're fuck all compared to the rest. At least the cobbled streets, being a historic attraction, are repaired properly whenever they are dug up. There's not an inch of normal road up here that hasn't been badly repaired. I was down in London a year or so ago and I'd swap your roads for mine any day of the week.

it's mostly because those cobbled streets are not heavily congested unlike normal road.

  • ^Exactly, Population of Edinburgh ~800,000. (Urban) Population of ~8million.

  • Too many local councils have their roads repaired by cheap, dodgy eastern european labour. i saw two in Camden the other day repairing paving slabs, it was a fcking joke. my nan could have done a better job.
