  • i need a tub to be used for the road only, i want to spend around£15-£25 on a tyre, so not too much. what do you think will be the best tyre for me?

  • yeh i do use google, but the reason why i joined a forum is to get peoples actual opinions on products not a fucking description off a website, so i shouldnt ask anything in future i presume?

  • Correct.

Now log out and go to bed.

  • i only got out of bed at 5 so no.

  • There's not much around that price but you could buy these:

  • Vittoria Rally Tubular £10.76
    Continental Giro Tubular £12.29
    Vittoria Pista CS Tubular £22.50

I don't use tubs and wouldn't suggest them for the road (unless you're racing and can make the most out of them) but of these the Vittoria Rally and Conti are designed for road use.

  • rusty, thats the tyre i was thinking of buying

The cheapest three tubs in the wiggle price list. I looked there too.

  • its either tht or i need to trade my tub front wheel for a clincher.

  • It's only for the front? Unless you have a love affair with tubs I'd just change the wheel.

    Slap this on it.

  • i wish i had £660 to spend on a bike, never mind a front wheel

  • conti sprinters. £23 here or about £20 plus postage from planetx

  • Continental: Sprinter Gatorskin Tubular

  • +1

  • I agree with dmczome + ringo -gatorskins from probikekit.com
EIther those or vittoria pave from sdeals.com
Get some Tufo latex sealant and occasionally superglue up any nicks / cuts in the tyre.
Don't skimp - it will bite you in the ass.

  • Or, you could buy a regular clincher wheel, and use tubular-clinchers (as discussed here), if you really like tubs that much.

  • A front tub is fine most of the time IMHO. In my experience I get less flats on the front anyway and one of the plus points of a tub is that it is sort of OKish to ride it flat (unlike a clincher). So if you puncture on a corner or whatever you are better off. A minor plus I'll admit. Carry a spare, pre-stretched tub and some tub tape (and have a practice at home) and you'll be fine. Oh and ideally have a spare wet weather wheel with (insert your choice of puncture resistant tyre here), for those days. The Gatorskin or the tufo are both fine (not an awful lot nicer than riding clinchers really but I presume it is for a fancy looking wheel so you aren't doing it for ride quality. Oh, what is that other one, Vittoria Roubaix Pave or something, never had one myself mind. Anyway, good luck.

  • Buy a clincher rim of ideally the same profile as the tub rim, rebuild using exisiting hub and spokes. Put tub rim on ebay.

  • Never understood the need for tubulars for clincher rims. Now if someone were to invent the opposite......

  • Dugust all the way!!

  • Yeah, for the road I don't run anything else. Sure, it means I pay more for tyres than most people spend on petrol but I'd not be caught out with anything but the best.

  • Continental: Sprinter Gatorskin Tubular

I use these on Corimas, very smooth had 1 puncture in 4 months regular use.

    ;)

  • Gatorskin tubs come up on ebay fairly often - I have a box full in my spare room
