  • Sorry I can't give more information about this, but someone I know working for the Met Police said a body was found in RP today with no ID. Person had a Monoc bike (don't know if track or road frame - the police's bike identification skills didn't go that far). Can anyone think of who this person could be?

If you know someone who fits the description could you please contact the Police if you can't get in touch with them.

  • Crashed alone?

  • (Apparently this has been mentioned in the evening papers, but I can't find a link).

  • Crashed alone?

Sorry, I really don't have any info - I got a text asking if I knew anyone who had been out in RP last night, is all.

    What description ?

Do you mean to ask, do we know anyone who owns a Monoc ?

"Royal Parks Police are investigating and have revealed the man was white, possibly in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and of thin build, he had short fair hair, no facial hair and wore Lycra cycling gear in black and grey.

They have also revealed his bike had a white and black Monoc frame."

  • White

    possibly in his 30s,

    About 6 feet tall

    Thin build,

    Short fair hair

    No facial hair

Lycra cycling gear in black and grey.

    White and black Monoc frame.

  • they said he was found yesterday at 3pm

well I was there just before that, between 12 and 2 ish, don't remember seeing anyone on a monoc going round, but then that don't really mean anything.

    poor sod..

  • Yep, poor sod.

    :(

  • pure speculation whilst we wait for more info, but it was wet there all day, pretty sketchy if you were hammering it, plenty of cars about too. I really, really hope this wasn't a hit & run.

  • Poor fella. I feel for his family at this festive time.

  • Sad news. i am with Andy. poor family!

  • well, i hope they manage to ID him soon..

  • Utterly grim.

  • Shit - I've been wondering about this since yesterday but haven't found anything about it online until now. Poor guy. Was lapping in the opposite direction (clockwise) at the same time, as I was going past Pembroke Lodge for some reason the idea of checking out the sight line to St Pauls occurred and I pulled off. Just after that there was some sort of commotion up ahead and in the next few mins sirens all over the place. I rode by maybe 10 mins later and was expecting to see the remnants of an accident with a deer (they were very close to the road that afternoon), unfortunately not. Spoke to the Police, but got a non-committal response - fair enough, but have had a bad feeling about it since. It was on the flat/slightly up-hill straight stretch a couple of hundred meters along from Richmond Gate, difficult to know what could have happened without anything else being involved, its not a fast stretch - slightly up hill and you've usually lost all your speed on the roundabout. Lots of cars about though so there must have been witnesses. Am pretty sure it was a geared Monoc, although there were a couple of fixed lapping as well.

Two minutes later got into a massive row with some guy tailgating me on the way down towards Roehampton gate - he then did some insane piece of overtaking before having to slam on the brakes thanks to the very obvious traffic jam immediately ahead. As I pulled alongside to overtake the window came down and his opening gambit was to call me a 'four eyed bastard' - absolutely wound up to the hilt. Given the events half a mile back I wasn't in the most stable frame of mind either and a heated exchange ensued before I eventually rode off.

Started out as a beautiful afternoon with Richmond park looking at it best - one hour later... Condolences to the Monoc rider.

Took it very easy going across town today, but still got buzzed by a souped up Astra full of chavs in Essex on the way back from the folks place tonight - same kind of thing; tailgated, this time they pull alongside, and you get called a 'fucking cunt'. Very unnerving. Its a minority sure, but there are a lot of pricks on the road.

  • Still recovering from a nasty geared crash, just makes you wonder what happened, we manage to survive most things...Poor guy. Still, could have been a truck around old street roundabout...worse places to go.

  • poor fella. henry's (eyebrows) got a geared monoc.

dude, please let us know you're alright!

  • Henry is early 20s and dark haired

  • there's more than just me with a black and white monoc.
there's the guy who had his stolen and repainted.

poor guy, that's just a terrible thing to happen.

(thanks for the concern tho FBR)

  • thats terrible

  • sad news, hope there wasn't any cars involved - although if it was your time to shift off this mortal coil Richmond Park on your bike would be nice place to be, just like what teleflorist said.

  • What makes this a little more sinister than the usual rider down is the fact that the OP just says rider found. No car, just a cadaver and a bike.

  • it's sad to think he was just found there lying on the ground helpless.

it's not that sinister, it is believed he came off the bike, hit the ground hard and died as a result of his injuries...

    ride safe people

  • feck.
