• Just (well, an hour or so ago)put one in cos it was one of my backups, thought i'd give ultra lights a try again and it's just fucking burst for no reason, woken my family up, and means i'm gonna have to get up at about 9 to fix it before i go to work.

    Wank.

  • inner tubes are not the place to save weight, my heart goes out to you and your family. sleep deep, sleep well.

  • Yeah, i learnt that on my way to work, just belted it down forest hill road and heard a big hiss, tube had just split for no reason, had to walk from there to old kent road to get a tube as i didn't have a spare, on my flashy looking bianchi gearie in the middle of peckham around 12 o clock... Scary times.

  • Peckham's not the place to be with any bike, someone smashed my rear wheel in whilst trying to nick my mtb that's probably worth about 50p in Peckham, either that or they was just angry at how crap it was, and how well I had locked it up.

  • Always ride with TWO spare inner tubes in London particularly in winter.

  • "get up at about 9"
    My heart bleeds.

Did you check the tube and tyre were seated properly?

  • Yeah yeah, i'm a mechanic by trade, i know how to do a innertube properly :P

Get up at 9, it was late, near on 3 wasn't it? And then to work on your feet for 8 hours, it isn't the best situ.

  • Does anyone use them gas canister inflators for emergency punctures?

  • If you want light inner tubes just use Michelin latex... they are great.. just needs to be inflated every 12 hours or so.. :)

Does anyone use them gas canister inflators for emergency punctures?

Yes, works really great.. and doesn't take up much space. Have yet to find a mini-pump able to pump up to 8 bars..

  • got meself one too, they are great.

plus puncture repair patches as well!

  • Say no to CO2 canisters!

  • Say no to CO2 canisters!

    Must spread some rep..

  • I got a mini pump off wiggle for about £5, easily & quickly gets up to 120psi.

  • Say no to CO2 canisters!

    second that!

I got a mini pump off wiggle for about £5, easily & quickly gets up to 120psi.

what brand is it? mind getting us a link? that's exactly the sort of stuff i'm looking for!

  • Why? (@tommy) Cos they're wasteful?

  • I got a mini pump off wiggle for about £5, easily & quickly gets up to 120psi.

Is that 120psi as measured on the mini-pump gauge?

I've never used a minipump that does 120psi easily or quickly but I still prefer them to the waste that is CO2. Blackburn FTW!

  • second that!

    edmundane!

    Why? (@tommy) Cos they're wasteful?

Yep wasteful and unnecessary unless your in a racing situation. It my hippy side, people having the attitude of through away products bla bla bla where's my saddles. A good mini pump will sort you out no problem. Plus I have heard that tyres tend to loose pressure quicker when blown up by CO2 cartages but I can not comment personally on that fact.

  • Fuck them good! I thought I was clever putting 2 conti versions on with a pair of michelin pro race lights the day b4 a hill ride. Sat down to watch TV & 5 mins later BANG! Went over to inspect, and as I drew my face close to the wheel... BANG the other one went off. In auto reflex panic I reared up and banged my head hard! The worst £12 I have ever spent.

Co2 canisters a waste of time and money unless ur racing. + weight weenies consider the fact that Co2 is heavier than air probably a good 0.0001 of a gram wasted weight

  • Topeak Minis with the gauge will do 130 psi, says it will do 140 but haven't tried...

  • Say no to CO2 canisters!

    Why? :)

  • Because they are a waste and you are an inferior human if you don't carry and use a mini-pump.

  •

had to walk from there to old kent road to get a tube as i didn't have a spare, on my flashy looking bianchi gearie in the middle of peckham around 12 o clock... Scary times.

You do know there's a bike shop in Peckham right?

  • Because they are a waste and you are an inferior human if you don't carry and use a mini-pump.

I have a mini-pump.. I'm just not able to pump to more than about 5 bars using it.. or any other mini-pump i have tried.

Only use the CO2's if I'm really far away from a floor-pump or a bike-shop though.

    On a side-note I mostly got the co2-adapter because I found a shitload of 16gm co2-canisters (about 30 or something like that).

  • You do know there's a bike shop in Peckham right?
WHERE? I went down a highstreet looking thing just before OKR, a netto springs to mind (if that helps where it is) and found nothing.
