Head Tube Help!

Posted on
  • Hello, was wondering whether anybody knows where i can lay my hands on a dave russell headtube badge/sticker, as have come across one in a skip (for once the luck is on my side) and was going to re-paint and re-build it but would like to keep it original as possible. Thanks.

  • try getting in touch with dave russell if there still about?

  • Did Some Internet searching and he apparently died in march this year...

  • I have one that I can scan for you.

H Lloyd Cycles has reproductions: http://hlloydcycles.com/index.htm

I'll also pm the details of someone who may have a few originals.

    What size? Pics please.

  • A skip? Is it a track frame? Does it have and decals on it already and what do they say?

There was a memorial bike jumble held in High Wycombe. They sold off loads of old stuff from the shop. There was a big box of decals there for frame tubes but absolutely no head tube badges. There is a good thread about Dave Russell here http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12577116&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The black border is 5cm High x 3.75cm Wide

  • Yep in a skip sitting outside a gutted house, It is a Road frame, unfortunately and am contemplating changing the dropouts, The current decals are Dave Russell on the seat tube and down tube, no head badge or indication of what kind of Reynolds tubing, but it pretty dam light, and apparently he only worked in 531 and 753 so i am guessing its 753. I will get some pics and size on tomorrow. Thanks.

  • Here is the Frame hope they satisfy its gonna need a fair deal of work, Does anyone know a place where i can get it sandblasted cheaply, as there is some rust that needs to be got rid of and the paint aint in good nick. Thanks>
hmm dont seem to be able to upload any photos any help?

I can get access to a bead/sandblaster after the new year if you can wait that long, it uses fine beads so it takes a while to strip everything, but wont damage the tubes. I'm not up on what and how to mask though.

  • What's the serial number on the BB shell?

  • Cant quite make out the second letter but i think the serial number is KD151, as for the sandblaster it needs to be tough enough to take rust off and thoroughly scour the frame. Its dawning on me now that it needs a lot of work (probably why it was in the skip in the first place). Thanks.

  • The sandblaster would take off the rust, just slowly.

did you find it with that quill stem convertery thing? (if thats what I think it is)

  • Yeah it is a converter and no i didnt find it with it in, I bought it separately, for y other bike then found that the quill stem was seized into the steerer tube.

  • Get it Bead blasted, easier on the metal and it'll do the job

Oh ok, I was just wondering if you found it a didn't need it, but looks like you do.

  • Yeah, I got it from freshtripe.co.uk, which sells a load of pretty good stuff some cheap some overpriced, actually this ones not great as the thread broke as i was getting it out so will have to re-tap it. As for bead blasting does anyone know where i can do it in London, any bike specific places? Thanks.
