  • We were discussing the need to have an excuse to escape our families after Christmas.

What better than saying "I think I may have eaten and drunk a little too much so I'll meet up with some friends for a healthy day of riding. Also that lovely (ahem) jumper will keep me so snug and warm."

11.30 am meet at The Lamb, then up to to North Drinks, North Polo Court, East Drinks, Brick Lane Polo Court, Bagels, Trixie Dix car park, The Duke, the John Snow, South Drinks and then to Wests.

Mulled Wine and Mince pies are the weapon of choice where possible.

If you are really lucky perhaps your hideous new jumper may suffer an accident.

  • Do it boxing day! Straight from critical mass to real ride.

  • As promised James, I am up for this either day, but boxing is best.
Ha! you gave the poll five days not 12 hrs like you said.

  • :( I'll miss this one too

  • As promised James, I am up for boxing.
Ha! you gave the poll five days not 12 hrs like you said.

Now, now. No need for fighting! And leave the polls alone.

  • Away with the family for Boxing Day, but if there was "something for the weekend" then would be up for it big time. Hil Billy, can you twist Fluff's arm, ever so gently, to load up the London Lights pictures to the e group? The ones of you in Tron Broadgate are well worth a look.

  • I'll send a PM to the young Fluff as soon as I can! which is right now infact.

Now back on topic: DRINKING and the like.

  • Another tip: Has anyone ever been on the Deserted London ride on Christmas Day?

    http://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/social.shtml

Thursday 25th December: 2512 ride. Our seventh. Meet 10am Cutty Sark Gardens and 11am Southwark Needle on London's quietest and smiliest day of the year. A slow and sociable exploring meander round central London in very good and diverse company. Drop out whenever or stay for a lunch up Edgware Road and - if we can find one that's open - maybe a pub after. Barry. 07905 889 005.

Led by the excellent Barry Mason of Southwark Cyclists, this is reportedly a brilliant ride. It comes recommended by lots of people. I've never been able to be on it, as I'm never in London at Christmas time.

  • So Jim Bill 1 you up for a little Riding and Drinking on boxfresh day??

Hum, I normally stay away from the drinking. But I guess I could give it a go.

  • HTFU!!!! mo fo!

  • I'm for this if only 'cos I'm hoping Stu may be marginally less fit after his holiday (unlikely) and there's a remote possibility I might keep up with him (very unlikely). I don't care which day, but I voted 26th.

  • i voted drunk and swng the poll. go me

  • I am good for both but voted 26th cause Murt wont be there

  • Gotta be 26th.

Ive done this and can reccomend it.

Definitely worth considering, although it can be a bit disorganised depending on the size and mood of the crowd.

The trawl along the Thames from Greenwich to London Bridge is good, as is sherry and cake courtesy Tower Hamlets' Black Knight if he's doing it. After that the ride gets up to about 100 people with as many as 80 making it to Edgeware Road for lunch.

Mind you, lunch is a bit of a misnomer as it happens around 3-4pm. Watch with bewilderment as the owner of Cafe du Liban kicks his family out to accomodate a horde of fluorescent cyclists demanding grilled meat.

  • I'm going to be in Redditch, but I might venture a Boxing Day ride up Brum, if it's not too icy-icy-oh-kakigori.

  • 27th is a saturday

you think training stops for your pitiful human festivals?

    No.

  • In which case vote for the 26th

This will then become a popularity contest that assesses how much people want Murtle to come on the ride (he can't do the 26th) and how much people want to do the training ride on the 27th.
