Take the built up bike to your LBS I doubt they'd quibble over chopping the cables down for you...?

ye I know - but I wanna do it myself cos then I learn how to do it - it was the same with wheelbuilding etc

There's a special tool for that? I always just use a bog standard pair of pliers.

Ditto... cable cutters have a crimping hole on the inside though too.

How?
Normal Pliers totally crush outers & leave inners in a splayed frayed mess.
I have some minature bolt cutters that do the job well, but have tried tons of different pliers & none worked.
I also have a pair of park cable cutters.

ok, I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy some, co I'll use them in the future. Thanks anyway.
Does anybody have a cable cutter/end crimper that I can borrow? - I'm buildng my dad an ss for christmas, but they cost £25! Happy to pick up anywhere - Ta.
