  • The marshmallow Easter egg bike is dead - so I am looking for a cheap new frame, no bigger than 48cm. Road conversion or track,

I got hit by a motorcyclist last night at 5.30pm, after he ran a red from Bridewell Place onto the main road (Farringdon Road) I was on. I'd just come through my lights as they were changing to green, slammed my brakes on but still hit his motorcycle at right angles.

My bike is pretty shagged - the top tube and down tube are dented/buckled, so I am going to be needing something else. Although my bike has finally acquired some track geometry by having its forks rammed back - my wheel is now super close to my down tube. Crunched, in all.

I'm not too hurt, no bones broken - just a swollen face, knee and hip, and a very painful shoulder. I am quite lucky that

    • it wasn't my sexy bike
    • it was a motorcycle not a car or anything bigger
    • I was wearing a lid
    • I go pretty slow at the best of times
    • I was the one who did the crashing into, rather than the other way around. Wouldn't have fancied a massive heavy motorbike slicing through me and my bike!

The police were excellent, as were the ambulance folk. I'm waiting to hear from the collisions unit who will be writing to me this week. I asked them to check the CCTV which they said they would be doing. I have the officers' details who attended to me. I have the driver's details and two witnesses, statements from all of which were taken by the police.

    Be careful out there kiddiewinks!

  • that's shit vic, anyway, glad you're ok.

    Did the motorcyclist stop?

  • Yes he did. Everyone waited for the police to arrive, and then they wouldn't let him leave. I didn't speak to him, but he asked me if I was ok, and witnesses saw him jump the red, so I think everything should turn out alright. Now I just need a friendly bike shop to value my 'very expensive upmarket' Raleigh....

  • poor thing, get better!! will keep an eye out.

  • that's not nice vic - glad you're relatively unscathed!

  • Sorry to hear of yet another collision, as usual seems the cyclist in the right. Still, makes no difference when we're so vulnerable.

The bright side: looking for a new bike! Heal well.

  • Glad to hear you're ok. Sounds like the aftermath was textbook, so let's hope the insurance come through too.

  • decidedly un-fun. but glad to hear you're okay and that the police/driver/people in general are doing somthing useful about it.

  • Is it just me or has no-one other than cyclists slowed down in these conditions?

  • main thing is you're alright vic. and well done for being organised at the scene.

  • Sorry to hear you had an accident Vic, glad to know your typing about it though.

  • those 650c deep v's are bomb proof... well, compared to the frame at least.

exactly or could be the builder

  • Is it just me or has no-one other than cyclists slowed down in these conditions?

I have. Probably because I'm getting fatter and I'm even more unfit than usual. Bring on the Hell of Ashdown!

Bad luck vic, at least you have some good witnesses by the sound of it.

  • Ta Ray, I think it may be a little big though, and I tried a Lemond once - not for me. Also I guess I'd like to swap my 650s over too, so smaller is better. Keeping my eye on eBay, it shouldn't be too hard to find something tiny - I mean, I have (well, had) two tiny bikes, so they're definitely out there...

  • tru dat! well eyes are peeled.x

  • Bad luck, vic.
Hood luck with the new wee bike hunt.

  • What do you call cheap ? I Just this minute started building this up as a fixed but I'd sell as frame forks and headset only if your interested ?

seat tube is 48.5 c to c and top tube is 52 c to c so it might be a little bigger than you want ? its very light and is built VERY tightly, just to give you an idea this is it as a geared bike with 23c tyres. Its got a 20c tyre on it in the lower pic.

Rear dropouts are semi vertical so you've only got a little bit of adjustment, but it runs with 44x17 fine.

  • Thanks Jones... that's quite interesting. I don't know how much I have to spend yet but probably looking to pay less than £150 for frame andforks - which is pretty easy to find in kids' bikes, Also I'd really like to put my 650s on it - are they 700s on there at the moment? I can't really afford new wheels you see!

  • Yes 700s sorry, although you could have the frame/forks/stem and I think its a Chorus headset for way less than £150 its probaly not worth the bother if you've got 650 wheels sitting there.

  • nice looking bike
new bike company to me aswell
where did you get the leather bar tape ? brooks ?

  • looking at the logo there dicki, i'd guess charge?

  • ha! :D
