I had a dutch biek with something like that. Never got it out, but i think you just hammer it out of there.

Hmmm risky!
Having the frame resprayed at armourtex, so guess I have to try and get it out.

can you turn the flash down so we can see some detail of the bb?

struggling with a very crappy camera phone, will upload some decent photos when I can get hold of my camera

Not sure if these are much better, but no flash..

Is it the same both sides?
If so, fuckin' smack the bastard out.
I'm not going to be held liable for a BB shell replacement. :D

• #8
yeah identical both sides...
would smack it out, but there looks like there are tiny lips protuding over the BB, all very strange!

you see the little notch in the lower left corner of the seccond picture? see if you can make it budge with a lockring tool. if not then its hammer time.

I would, but I'm Dutch anyway. :D Looks like you've got pressed-in industrial bearings there and the only option is to smack them out and then replace them - use a rubber hammer for this and smack the axle. I'd only do that if you're having problems with them though, otherwise just leave them there. What brand is the bike anyway?

It's a Batavus Flying Dutchman, trying to work out an age on it at the moment, but not getting very far.....
Single speed, coaster brake on the back.
Looks a bit like this (but now in lots of pieces!
Does anyone know if Armourtex will spray the bike with the bottom bracket still in?

Judging by appearances I'd say you've got a bike from the 70's or early 80s latest there. I wouldn't spray it with the bottom bracket still in though... Hell, I wouldn;t spray it at all! It's great just the way it is, as lon as you remove that ludicrous front brake - that can't be original, surely...

I don't know about armourtex, but when I approached a powder coaters on the south coast they could coat around the BB, they mask it off, so based on that I assume Armourtex will too. Just ring them up and ask, they are friendly guys.
hope that helps.

When I booked my frame in to Armourtex they told me to remove all parts from the bike.
Lucky I hadn't even built it up by then.

hmmm I would not spray it, but the last owner has started to strip the frame the frame down,so random patches of stripped frame!

Shame... Well, in that case I guess you could hammer the bearings out and if they're still good you can always re-use them afterwards.
Hi,
This is my 8 millionith question on this damn Dutch bike I am building my girlfriend for Christmas. Have just removed the cranks, and am now looking at the bottom bracket, but can't work out how the hell I am meant to remove it!
It doesn't look like a sealed cartridge or cone & cup one, and cant see anyway of getting it out, anyone got any ideas how? Perleaseeeeee??
It is 68mm wide and has France written on it....
