Not sure about the Twickenham to Central bit but head to Camden, go accross to and past Finsbury park. Turn left at Manor House station on to green lanes. Go all the way up (trough Wood Green, Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill and you should end up in Enfeild.

Hey P, been around, just not about! Moved house, got made redundant, job hunting, etc, etc. Hence the need to know routes to Enfield. Jobs are thin on the ground and needs must. Especially when the pay is right!

I wouldn't go central, I used to visit a friend in wood green from putney and found the quickest way was via the outside central route.
Gmaps pedometer says the shortest route is 35 k, which for a guy my size would equate to 2500 calories one way- via the norh circular which i think has a cycle path.
you lucky guy!
hope alls well. -

The North Circ is fucking horrible.

twickenham, richmond (via river if you want scenic), upper richmond road, putney, cross river, kings road, sloane square, hyde park, euston road, camden

OK, so it seems that the two options would equate to about the same distance - about 23 miles - but which one has the (if any) pluses? I imagine that the North Circ would have the slight edge on speed - less lights etc - but would be dull and dangerous. Does a cycle path exist? The TFL website takes you way out of the way when you use the journey planner - also has the journey time at about 2hrs 40 mins! As for town, it is certainly a route I know (ish). Certainly the first 3/4 at least.
Will have to see if the job comes my way first I suppose!

Yeah, the top one is the route I was thinking, there abouts. Still, a lot of cycling per day! It's one way to get fitter.

I've only noticed a cycle lane on bits of the north circular (north of the A40) but I was driving so can't go gazing at the side. South of the A40 it's fine to ride on.
Try both one weekend if you get the job (good luck btw), one may be better in one direction to the other.
P.S I'd avoid central because it will slow you down.
My route.
I think I'd need a gps to get me used to this route though as my navigation is terrible!

Cheers, I need all the luck at the moment. Its not the only one I've applied for mind so fingers crossed. I'm hoping for one of the closer ones to be honest! But at the end of the day it pays well so I guess it'll be worth the effort. Cheers for the route. Will def have to ride it to figure out which is best. There is a lot of up on the North Circ from what I remember...but I guess that gives me the easier ride home.

I live in Enfield, why on earth would you want to come here?
There's not much cycle path along the north circular near Enfield. Green lanes isn't that bad, at least its straight. Just make sure you stay out of the bus lane between Wood Green and the north circ - absolutely horrific road surface.

The only reason would be a job that pays well! Cheers for the advice.

Tommy's route is spot on.
Diverting closer to the city would cost you heaps in time and miles but the North Circ between Hanger Lane and New Southgate is essentially a motorway. The area around it and paths are disjointed and shoddy, generally harrowing for cycling.
Hi All,
Does anyone know of any good routes there and back? I'm looking for faster rather than scenic. Or part routes!
Cheers
Anthony
