It's really is, started to get slippery all over London, and it wasn't even wet, just oddly damp out of all a sudden.

ved, hope you're okay dude, get some ice on the bruising..

i was in a graveyard in chiswick today and i came off on a slimy wet gravestone.

I would say its something to do with the excess amounts of rain too, causes quite allot of oil on the roads. Also watch out for those leaves, killers.

You're right Ed its not wet, its a horrible damp film on the roads...

what is it with today? it was quite dry all day, and them bam, the evening come and now the whole of London is an ice fucking rinks.
Ved, don't forget to take painkiller before you sleep, really important.
and if pain still presist, worth going to a GP to get it checked.

Went out today on Randonneurs on an experimental 48/17 for first time and it was fucking great. Grinding 76 GI whilst skidding like a bastard was ace.

VED, hope you and the bike are ok and will be in RP on Friday.
Since I've been riding fixed I've noticed more skids on damp days. Presumably it is because I would have freewheeled on corners/over man hole covers before.

On my way home from college last year I wiped out at aroun 25mph (being cautious) on a downhill, off camber bend with spilt diesel. I remained clipped in and slid about 20 yards down the wrong side of the road (amazingly through a break in the oncoming traffic) on my hip and forearm before bouncing up a kurb and getting it in the squidgy bit between my ribs and hip. Shredded my jeans and hoody, major gravel rash, nicely scratched handlebars, shoes and pedal and a bruised kidney. Wasn't fun.

@ Ed yeah dude, i'm getting pilled up alright.

I was wondering why my tyres felt so easy to skid considering how unusually grippy it is tonight.

Nearly lost it at full speed going down Muswell hill today, rear wheel locked up on those surprisingly slippery bus lane dividers and veered of toward the left while my front was still going forward,
i think i shat myself a bit due to the 134 trailing on my arse. -

Doubletap, just watch any paved bits of road and low curbs dude. :s

I'm sure i hit some ice this morning, skid stopping half way to work, nearly lost the rear end, it skidded (sitting down) so easily and felt like i had put all my weight forward of the bars!

Painkillers are bad since they mask pain you might need to explain. HTFU

where abouts did you slip, Ved?
So I decided to try a different route home and its a bit damp outside. Managed to get past Wandsworth Roundabout and then filtering traffic I thought I'd nip into a bus lane and avoid traffic. BANG!
Completely lost rear wheel underneath me and stacked it with all my weight and the bike falling right into the bus lane lay-by. Bruised hip, and tender knee and elbow, but boy was I happy I wore my helmet as my bonce hit the pavement hard. Luckily all this happened at low speed.
It so slippery people so take it easy. Also a word of warning for Vittoria Radonneur users, these tires don't feel very grippy in the wet IMO, take extra care.
Ride safe all.
