Ebay Scam - New?

Posted on
• I have a friend who is currently selling some items on ebay and pretty much everyday get a question or two and this morning was no different. He received an email regarding one of his items that looked like this:

It was only luck that he already had 'myebay' open in a separate page so decided to answer the question through ebay instead of clicking on the respond now button. When he couldn’t find it on there he got suspicious and sure enough when looking closely at the web address it’s a fishing email and a really good one at that.

Respond now button takes you to this page:

And then you ‘log in’ (he used the password 'go and get a job you cunt'), then you get this page:

To which he replied with this:

And then finally you get this:

After you click any of the links in this last page it links you back into your real ebay page and you would never have known you have just been fished. He has reported it to ebay.

So folks, be carful out there and give this guy [b]member@ebay.id11362.co.uk[/B"]member@ebay.id11362.co.uk"]member@ebay.id11362.co.uk[/B] as much shit as you like.

My preference would be to just ignore it.....the scammers will be sending out a ton of these anyway..........

• Well fake!
I got done a couple of years ago, cunts hacked into my eBay AND Paypal account, changed my passwords so I couldn't get into. Right ballache dealing with a load of muppets in India trying to explain the problem
eBay closed my acount and investigated, apparently some cunts were trying to sell moody TV's and DVD players from my account in Harlesden!!?

• check the Http address, is not ebay, is something like "humanisteurope.org"

• yeah, i'm sorry, if you don't notice the address is wrong, you deserve to get phished.

That's true. Most phishing emails just smack of fake.

Anyway, update your friend's browser! IE 7 and Firefox 3 check each page against reported phishing websites. IE 6 has to be the worst piece of software that the earth has seen so far. 2nd place Microsoft Bob.

• ^^ thats well sophisticated dodginess, but im surprised they never got a better URL.

Someone bought my camera of ebay (£460) BIN. I was well suspicious as they never asked question or made a lower offer which was available.

There postal address was different to the paypal one also.

I was about to cash in the money and send to the 'official' address, so id still be covered by paypal protection, and the legitimate owner of the account would receive the camera anyhow, aswell as being refunded if dodgy.

But I got a paypal notice a couple days later and the funds were seized, I contacted the paypal email directly and it turned out to be a woman oblivious to why all her money was being spent.

So I refunded her straight away.

Now ebay made me wait a whole week to even register a bounced payment, and theres is no way to report a fraudulent buyer at all.

Im getting worried that I am the one getting ripped off, and theres little power I have.
I have to wait another week to give the buyer another chance to pay!

• You should be using firefox 3.0 which uses certificates to authenticate the website. For big companies like your bank / paypal /eBay etc it shows a green bar next to the address when it is verfied.
