this looks pretty cool, chances of me making 80 miles are zero but I think i'll try and join it for a bit.

Sounds good, as long as we're not going to thrash it.
Will the Manchester Fixed scene put in an appearance on masse?
If a couple of other people are up for it I'm down.OR NOT BECAUSE OF UNI, GOD DAMN.

I'd consider doing the whole distance on my geared bike if the weather was OK - I can't be bothered cycling in the wet anymore, the cleaning up afterwards depresses me.
I've never done anything like 80 miles on my fixed so I would only do a section of it. Maybe the final run in.... take some of the glory without most of the effort.
Still, all depends on weather if it's fine I'll be up for the last 10-20 miles or so, from Stockport, Altrincham or Sale.

I'm doing the whole thing fixed on 52/14 :)

Mad rep Dr. Chan, balls of steel.
If I can find the ride after my lectures I'll join in, but I'm guessing that'll be pretty late. -

im gonna do the 9.30 start, doing it fixed on 44x16 will be on a gold framed viscount so say hi if you see me :)

on this like a fat kids on cakes - longest ive done fixed before is 55 miles and that was HARD but I think (touch wood) im fitter now - gonna do it fixed 42x17 - think the 9.30 start sounds about right - is anyone wanting to head down from Manchester to Swinton together?
@ mechamorgan - its on a saturday, surely no lectures on a weekend?

I'm doing the whole thing fixed on 52/14 :)
Any idea how hilly the route is? I notice it goes through Bolton. Hmm fixed or geared.
-
• #10
Just for the record I was joking. No way I could manage on 52/14! haha
Might do the last bit, on 48/17 or maybe 48/18 that would be a nice gear if you are going to do the whole thing.

people doing it fixed then? iv done 60 miles fixed and it was no problem but the route was very flat, ah well see how it goes i guess and hope its a nice dry day

I kind of fancy doing it fixed (48x18), not sure if it's a silly idea though.
Depends on how hilly the route is really.

a couple of us are meeting outside Edinburgh cycles at 8.30 tommorow morning and riding to salford for the half 9 start if anyone wants to meet us, cool

Brrrrrr. I turned up at Swinton TH at 9.30 just to see what was going on and found myself on my own gingerly riding around the carpark with a total loss of feeling in both feet and hands. I guess this was called off - should have checked first really.
-
• #15
aah shit, it wasnt called off, that sucks cause we all left at 9.30 so you must have just missed us - only made it to bolton tho because it was soo horribly cold and then 4 of us rode back to manchester - i suppose it was fun, in a really masochistic way

Dewi I think you should count yourself lucky!
yeh now its over and I never have to do it again, I guess it was ok...on a more serious side though, I don't understand how that was supposed to encourage people to vote yes to the congestion charge, all we did was slow people down and piss off drivers, also had alot of abusive "vote no" shouted at us
-

Did you do the whole distance fixed? I was soooo cold by the time I got home and I only did 20 miles or so. 'Twas nice cycling through Salford Quays and over the bridge with the fog below and the sun above.
Hopefully I'll get to meet up with people on another ride, possibly with soothing alcohol at the end of it.
