True, I was thinking more about whether it would be better to be paid ones salary in $ or £, for example.

The US economy will likely falter after this downgrade.
+1
It's unlikely to be strong again until it finds a way to start reversing the huge debts it has
There is no real guarantee it will ever be strong again, or at least as strong as it once was, the average life of a fiat currency is 27 years, the Dollar (as it is today) is 40 years old, I can't imagine it disappearing any time soon, but no currency lasts forever.
I can see any way (politically) that the US can pay off it's debt.

They could join the Euro, and then Germany could do it for them?

Hard to say, so many variables, I suppose you'd want to be paid in the one that's devaluing the slowest.

Sounds like a plan, I'l email Obama.

Less.
A depreciated but stable currency in a higher interest environment could be considered more desirable. The macro-economic theory runs deeper than 'weak currency is undesirable'. It's fucking great for US exporters.

You might want to check out the US interest rate.
Follow the green arrow until you reach the very tip, then zoom in, it's down there somewhere if you search around (currently somewhere between 0% and 0.25% (a half of a half of one percent).

Looks like America is a great place to get a base rate tracker mortgage right now.

That would be what is called a 'quarter' in technical terms ;)

Thank you for your graphic with arrow. The US cost of borrowing will increase due to the ratings downgrade. The cost of borrowing is very different to the bond rate.

According to the BeeB it started as a peaceful protest about the recent shooting of the local bloke but as many protests do it turned violent. This time a little more violent than expected. No reports of police injuries

Just got the radio on saying couple of shops getting looted Barclays bank bust open! People angry in tottenham.
-
• #4121
They must be proud of themselves for organising the protest.
I hope they will be treated as badly as students were. -

Used to live there. Was alright if you're used to police tape.

The problem is, families and local communites don't mind people "doing their ting" and be in gangs.
That cunt had a gun. It could be used against anyone within the community. Wake up, people! End of story. -

I heard he was Brazilian as well.

Not that I'm saying he didn't have a gun. I have no idea.
If you have more dollars (all other things being equal) you are wealthier, the downgrading of the US credit rating has no bearing on that.
