  • Do you love to slipstream buses? I used to do it with my wheel less than a foot away from the rear bumper, it was ace man, especially on a windy day, and it was exhilarating going that fast with your wheel that close. Its only good on a smooth straight route though where the bus is going less than 30 but more than 20 and has a side exhaust pipe rather than a rear centre one and there are no bus stops for a mile or so. Which is rare.

  • Wise words, 'Jah.

  • until they brake and you die.

  • buses in London stop every ten yards, to enable the lazy, obese passengers to complete their journeys with as little effort as possible.

  • Yeah, I've had maybe 5 good bus drafting runs in 3 years.. London buses stop far too often.
I had an awesome one once where I'm sure the guy knew I was there.. he was 'almost' running lights to keep the pace on.. went from west Acton and didn't slow down until Shepherds Bush.
Drafting trucks back home was far easier.. and faster.

There's this thing called brake lights, you generally find them on the back of buses.

There's also this thing called hand-eye co-ordination, you usually have it yourself, and it generally stops you from crashing into the back of a bus when it brakes.

admit it hippy, you don't draft buses, buses draft you.

  • hahaha yeah.. that could be one reason for my lack of good drafting runs here in Loondone. :P

  • I had embarassing/painfull incident drafting a bus in Aus. Checked over the shoulder to change lanes, by the time I turned my head around the bus had stopped. My helmet took most of the impact and cracked right through - bike was fine. Doesn't seem to be much point drafting them over here with such frequent stopping.

  • Drafting ambulances is usually more effective as everything moves out of the way for them, however this was also how I had my most spectacular crash to date, for full details see the 'hilarious injuries' thread

  • I've taken to drafting black cabs as you can see through the windows to anticipate the traffic and see what the driver is up to. Bus drafting is warm but gives me asthma.

  • so i was riding behind this bus yeh and it was well mental like 30mph and then there was a red light and the bus started slowing down and i was like trying to break and slow down and this was in liverpool cos i was going to see my mates at the pier head yeh so that's why i was slipstreaming a bus and anyway the bus stopped really quickly and i skidded with my back wheel not my front wheel my back wheel and it didn't work so like i had the fear and my head went bang in to the back of thew bus and i was in a heap on the floor and these guys helped me up i thought i had broken my bike but i hadn't though the front wheel not the back wheel was bent to fuck and then the cops came they were the best cops ever and they put me in the riot van though there wasn't a riot it was just a riot van and they took me to the pier head and my head is sore and can i sue the bus for stopping?

These are your friends: . ,

  • Coaches are better than buses as they don't stop too often. also those shit scooters are pretty good as you can usually catch them. I slipstreamed on of those electric scooters the other day, that must have been the best as there was no exhaust fumes.

    Understanding joke FAIL.

I didn't even know they existed.. one of them freaked me out the other day. It cruised by quieter than most bikes! I studied it for a while and then put it out of its misery.

  • I've taken to drafting pedestrians. Dangerous as they don't have brake lights.

    class ;)

  • I just witnesses the most beautiful dance I´ve ever seen in my life the moment I shouted "OI!!" when going down a busy Oxford Street today, this bloke can make Riverdance look like a brunch of people jumping up and down.

drafting busses is pointless in london

drafting tractors in the country is beast though as they speed up and then nod u on when the go the other way :)

Which is nice. I used to get pulled off at half-time at Crewe Alexandra though...
