A farm track?
This is London my friend.

i tried taking mine down what would have been, on my mountain bike, a nice gentle track. terrifying on the skinny 23 diameter tyres, and bloody bumpy.

the site of the old beastway races would of been fun, london has loads of little heathland and commons you could ride (maybe get shot, stabbed and raped aswell)
I was tinking earlyer how diffrent my commute is to most of the people on this forum when earlyer today i was stuck behind a tractor towing a trailer full of men in flat caps with guns and dogs,
do you get that in london? -

I get the same when out riding, I live nowhere near London though. I'm sure they have people with caps (at a jaunty angle), guns and dogs though.

I did some bridleways and tracks a few weeks ago. It's surprising what you can do on a bike with narrow slick tyres, it's just alot slower, but just as fun.

I went to see some friends do a cross and want to try it thinking of converting my Pompino, its set with wide forks and loads of clearence, light sounds perfect for a conversion. not sure about the geearing though.

Certainly makes the unchallenging tracks/fire roads in my area a bit more fun. Absolute waste of time using an MTB. Just needs some tough tires and no stopping you (currently using some 28 Ribmos which are doing well - lighter and more 'rubbery' than Armadillos)
Ideally would need a lower gearing of around 60 as I struggle a bit (a lot) on the uphills pushing a 70 but a 60 is stupid on the road where I ride the most. -

I've been told 50-55 would be best... depending on the course, of course

Someone raced at Cross at the Castle on a fixed. I think the hangover slowed him more than riding fixed tho......

Oh god! TT's on the flat are bad enough! Not even 30mph can leave the pain on the start line!! Karma

There is a madison 'cross at Herne Hill on January 1st - nice and flat - ideal for a fixed! The cross is early afternoon 1.30 I think
There is also a jumble starting at 10 am -

Does the jumble start at 1:30 as well or is it earlier

Off road on fixed is proper mad - must be better on a single speed
-
• #18
Tell that to these guys: www.63xc.com
-
• #19
They all look mad as beans, using sprockets as monocles, no freewheeling, must be knackering at cross pace
-
• #20
It wouldn't be at cross pace.
-
• #21
True, bet they fall off alot though

I find it better fun than singlespeed. Just a bit more limiting as jumping over things is not as easy and I miss being able to manual over things (although cyclocross people probably don't do that anyway!)
on my way back from my girlfriend's place today I took a little detour across a farm track and that gave me the idea of doing part of one of my mtb loops.
It was some of the best fun i've had in ages, tring to take on some fast muddy singletrack thats littered in roots without brakes is quite hard it seems.
Any way just thought i would share that
