If the manufacturers of EPO can sponsor the Tour of California, then why not? There's fuck all money being put into sponsorship at the moment, so beggars can't be choosers!

Don't think it's a joke.
Corporate giant has a lot of money.
Cycling teams need new equipment and applies for sponsor.
Cycling team gets new equipment (with McDonalds logo), they're happy.
McDonalds have their logo printed all over a healthy and wholesome activity and are seen to be aiding the sporting community, they're happy.
Done deal. Plus it's not new, McDonalds have been sponsoring sports based activities for years to help improve their image.

look at the level they are competing at
getting beaten by unsponsored weekend warriors at local crits.
I'd ride for them if they paid my expenses and gave me free kit and cheesburgers (If I wasn't already signed for Rollapaluza/Don Walker)
actually...of course I wouldn't, even if I was good enough. But sometimes cycling needs the dirty money to succeed. Sky sports and national lottery ain't exactly Oxfam or the red cross, but that's how the cookie crumbles. Saunier Duval make boilers, and Mapei make tile adhesive and grout.

Done. Not too long ago in the States the only requirements to sponsor an amateur team were to put $1000 into their coffers and hold a race every few years.
That amount probably hasn't increased much since then.
So even with a big name sponsor on your chest in many cases you still had to pay for those jerseys and team bikes and equipment.

Have any of you not thought that it could just be a staff team?
Mony companies large & small as well as the police/army etc have heaps of sports teams/clubs, it would be cool if mcdonalds funded a cycling club for their employees.
