    thanks, ben

  • Crosswinds + moving vehicles = Fail.

  • so not a good idea then? haha

  • get a front one. front ones are the best.

  • are they!? where can i get one from? ive had a search but cant seem to find any that arent stupid expensive! i did look to mooneyes, but i cant find any in the UK!

Get two front wheels, a disc for those days when the wind is below 8 mph (you can check on the BBC weather site) and a normal wheel for the other 310 days of the year.

Even a trispoke like a Hed3 gets pushed around on a moderately windy day.

If you do go for a disc I would stick to the rear only where it is much less of a problem.

  • thats a good idea! 2 wheels. still need to find one for sale though!

  • so what about this? what are they like?

  • if you have the disc in the front, with wind will be dificult to control,so better have one in the back, with your weight mainly over the back wheel the wind is no so bad.

we use them for polo, and for polo where you need one is in the front.

we made them front the plastic advers the state agents use to adver houses, cheap, and strong, and easy to work with.

the ones you show in ebay, looks to be just a plastic bag, and a metalic ring, so I no to convince

  • I use a front wheel cover for polo as it saves the spokes getting trashed and you can use the wheel to block the ball better. Check this link about how to make them http://legitbikepolo.com/how-to-make-it/ pretty easy and you can make the disc from an old For Sale sign.

Try it out as it'll cost nowt, if you like it then go buy one.

Heh, even my 30mm deep rims get pushed around! It;'s bloody scary like

  • thats wicked thanks guys! and how do you attach them to your wheels?

Yep! It surprising how much you get steered around by the wind with anything other than standard wheels.

  • thats wicked thanks guys! and how do you attach them to your wheels?

    Watch the clip.

    Drill holes.

    Cable tie.

    Job done.

  • doesn't matter, i just watched the video! that is my next project then. i'll let you all know how it goes!

any pictures of your wheel covers?

  • No pics of mine, but check out these

some good shots of polo bikes from the last tourney

  • the link doesn't work!

  • that looks like a shit load of fun!!!

im gunna get me (make me) one of those, Fa Shaw...Fa Shaaaw!

    ;)

(a high five to the first person to get the movie quote)

  • The Fa Shawshank Redemption?

  • Fa Shawn of the Dead?

  • nice! haha, its a line from a film.

  • Do you want to put discs on for Polo, or just for image? If its the later dont bother - proper disc/aero wheels are designed to minimise the effects of crosswinds, where as cutouts you stick on your wheels act like a fuck off sail.

I have a Hed Rear Disc, and Zipp Aero front, and it is not too bad at all, however i have ridden several bikes with disc covers, and you notice the affect of the wind much more than on proper aero wheels.

Also if its for looks alone, you need to go for the real deal, as quite frankly on anything but a polo bike where they lend the bikes a mad max apocolyptic sort of charm, the covers look like shit, like when a chav sticks a GTI sign on the back of their one litre shopping trolley.

  • it is mainly becasue of the way it looks! but i am also interested in having a go at bike polo, so i guess both! i had moondisks on my car for ages and always loved the way the wheel looked solid, i would get 'real' ones but i can't afford it. i also means i can do a load of designs on them etc. just for a bit of fun reallY! im not trying to make it look like something it isn't i just want to have fun with it. if you saw my car you might understand the way i think about things like this! haha
