Shimano 600 Arabesque rear mech issue

  • Yes I know, gears are for queers and large Australian men called hippy.

Anyone able to work this out? My brother took apart one of the above as the thing has siezed. Now when we try to put it together, the spring is forcing the cage in the wrong direction. It seems the obvious thing to do is to swap the spring around, but it doesn't make any difference.

There must be something very simple going wrong. Can anyone shed any light on it??

    Correct:

    Definitely not correct!

    Thanks
    Sam

  • There is probably a stop plate on the outside of the cylinder which houses the spring.

And a stop pin on the pulley cage.

You'll be able to identify these pieces by twisting the derailleur and see what prevents the cage from moving any further.

The pin should be on the other side of the plate.

Easy job if stop pin is removable otherwise disassembly may be needed.

  • Did you wind the cage 'round to tension the spring ?

I've got the Arabesque front+rear derailleurs and friction shifters on my old Carlton 10 speed. Really like them

  • I have the same rear mesh that I am selling, but the two ring need to be replaced

I am selling it among the front mesh and gear shifters.

    Interested?

Nope, but I have now. Many thanks for that!

  • I did that on my old Apollo.. it took me all day messing around with the fscking thing before I finally asked my old man wtf was wrong with the poxy derailler.. he spins it around and tightens it.. all good. I hate old people. ;)
