Sakae (SR) Custom Cranks - JIS or ISO?

Posted on
  • anyone?

    not on Sheldon site..

  • I thought SR was suntour (maybe not) . I think fresh has got a custom crank on his £5 sale.

  • my SR pista ones are 144 BCD and ISO

  • i thought JIS too, dale yer wrong...........again :)

  • i thought JIS too, dale yer wrong...........as usual :)

    Fixed.

  • it's not as if i don't have the cranks. most pista 144BCD cranks will have ISO taper ie sugino 75

  • I've got SR Royal pista cranks as well and they don't properly fit newer JIS spindles.

But they work with Campy and SR spindles of the same era.

It's quite possible that for the highend Royal cranks SR copied Campy right down to the taper.

And reserved JIS for the lower models.

Definitely don't work with modern Campy stuff. Seem ok with modern Shimano stuff though.

    No, it is Sakae Ringyo.

  • I'm with Murts - I figured it was probably JIS as it's Japanese, 130 bcd and low-end. Sorry dogs, should have stipulated it isn't a pista crank.

    cheers dudes.

  • No, it is Sakae Ringyo.
I stand corrected. That means I've got a 'Sakae Ringyo' stem on my bike. Learn something new every day.

  • sorry to drag up an old thread but i have just got a pair or sakae "custom" cranks
i tried them on a friends bb and think i'm going to have to get a 123mm length bb which seems very long

so what i'm asking is what length bb does anyone else use with these cranks? (pajamas?)
    thanks

  • last minute bump.

  • i've got the cranks off pajamas but i haven't fitted them on anything yet. was a bugger to get a chainring for it (118 bcd!?!) does anyone know anything about what bb to use with it? it has jis written on it if that makes any difference.

  • custom, you mean those road cranks?
for early 80's pista ones, dogs is right. i have a pair of those SR ones myself. they're fitted on a miche bb at the moment.
but i've managed to get them working on a shimano 107mm as well.
    grey area?

  • the sr cranks i have, seem to be an extremely cheap road double which you can't change the chainrings on as they are riveted.
They are however 165mm so all is well.

the bb I measured 123mm on has external threading so you use nuts
im ordering a bb with internal threading where you use bolts
will 123mm therefore work on the 'newer' bb?

thanks [and sorry for long-winded post]

  • Did a little bit of web searching.

Heres the catalogue for those parts: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/sakae/catalog18/index.html

The single cranks are here: http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/sakae/catalog18/pdf/sakaecatalog18_%203.pdf

It states that the RY-BBS series of BB's are designed for these cranks.

While it doesn't specify either ISO or JIS I did find this VeloBase page which advertises the same BB's as ISO: http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=cd004cca-7d07-4194-b61b-77d6f8698f91
