  • What's the rules? I reckon 1 per team per game for mechanicals and/or injuries.

MI called one during our match after Matt got hit in the head (with Nick's mallet). We called one when Scott unshipped his chain during our match with MT. And DBT called one yesterday when Harry unshipped his chain.

And what's the word on restarts after a time out?

  • for shoreditch there were no timeouts, unless there was potentially serious injury.

but on the other hand, there is much more organisation for a tourney (more people for subs, more bikes at hand to swap). and no time constraints.

one per team/per game sounds good, for mechanical or injury.

possible restart: team in control of ball at time of call get posession, starting at their D (both teams at D)?

  • why does there have to be a limit? what happens if a team has already used its time out but one of the plays is seriously injured...does the game just continue without the injured player being seen to?

we're just making up rules for the sake of it now.

Unlimited time outs, but only for serious mechanical/injury?

  • how about unlimited time outs.

  • tea breaks? tunnels? half time oranges?

"oo! time out! i have a hair in my eye!"

  • Dogs are not cats, Matt.

  • hey hey, time out buddy!

  • ha!

  • Timeouts are unnecessary. If there is potential for serious injury, then of course play should stop and I really do think that most/all of us recognize this subclause in the 'don't be a dick' rule...

Really, if you're bike gets fucked, grab somebody else's. Mallet, same goes.

I see absolutely no need for 'time outs'. Ever.

  • Agreed.

  • I don't personally mind time-outs in league games (read: so I'm vaguely for them). But if people feel strongly about it, I'm fine with them being banned (read: but I don't really care).

  • psst! horatio, i found you one of these:

    :D

  • i can't recall a single occasion where a time out has effected a game...banning them is ludicrous! polo is going to a place that is of no interest to me.

  • We'll solve our differences on the court Matt. Oh wait, we already did.

  • The time out during our game with Sitting Ducks was necessary (serious injury).

Think about how we play throw in games; someone gets injured, we stop until they're okay and then we start again. It's essentially a time-out and we don't limit how many times we do it in a game. Why would we not apply the same instinctual consideration and logic to league games?
