sandbar is usually pretty busy with bikes any week day. i wouldnt mind going somewhere different for a change.

I drink in Grand Central a lot, maybe there? (If you can handle non stop slayer)

Temple bar? (Oxford Road)

Maybe look for places in Withington, Fallowfield, Chorlton...

temple is too small surely (assuming this group grows!). There is bugger all in fallowfield worth mentioning. although the drop inn has changed hands and is now the Ram&Shackle, it's not great but it's better.

Nice one, I live just next door to Chorlton, use to live right in the center (4 banks) for around 2 years. Loads of nice pubs, we could do a bit of a crawl :)
