May be talking rubbish, but do they have a pin through the shoe that you need to pull out before you can release the pads?

Older ones normally slide out of 1 end? Factory fit normally have a few dabs of glue on the back so will be tough to slide. Is there an opening one end?
-
• #8
Don't new ones come already attached to shoes?

Old brake blocks are made of liquorice, so just chew them out.

or wear them out :-)

Loosen the shoes, swivel them through 180 degrees, ride down a really steep hill, and then panic brake. That'll whip 'em out*.

ha, you fuckers. Yep Prav's right this is on the Faudax.
Yep they're old Campagnolo, with an opening at one end to slide em out of ... I was starting to tear them when I used the pliers. Which is why I asked, like if there's some neat trick I don't know, that involves soapy water or talc or some shit.

HTFU
Push 'em out with a screwdriver.
I clean my screwdrivers beforehand by stabbing them through black cab tyre walls. Your mileage may vary.

Cheers I'll try that. Not with the taxis though, I'm a lover not a fighter. Not really much of a hippy are ya?
How do I get old brake blocks out of the shoes, so I can get some nice news ones in there? I can't get em out, have been trying to shift them with pliers, and tapping it with a hammer... am I just being a weakling?
