  • I couldn't wait:

UCI Track Cycling World Cup - Manchester organiser British Cycling Events has today announced that a host of Olympic stars will be riding at the event from 31 October to 2 November at Manchester Velodrome.

British Olympic heroes Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Chris Newton, Ross Edgar, Jamie Staff, Jason Kenny, Wendy Houvenahgel and Victoria Pendleton, will be joined by rivals such as Teun Mulder (Netherlands), Walter Perez (Argentina) and Lesya Kalitovsyka (Ukraine).

British Cycling Events director Peter King said: "We are really looking forward to seeing some of the world's top track cyclists in action at the Manchester Velodrome, which is the home of British Cycling."

Triple Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy will not ride at the event, but will make special guest appearances on Friday 31 October and Sunday 2 November and will be available to sign autographs.

You can catch the action on BBC television. It will be broadcast live on BBC Interactive from 7pm until 10.40pm on Friday 31 October and from 7pm until 10.20pm on Saturday 1 November. Highlights from Friday and Saturday's action with live coverage of Sunday's races will feature in a show on BBC on Sunday 2 November from 2pm until 5pm.

Best of luck to team GB, especially Rollapaluza record holder Craig Maclean

  • I think a special outing to the Coach & Horses might have to be organised for this... No Becky or Wiggo?

  • there's no official team sheets yet, so I dunno.

  • Ok,it's started!

1900-2240, live coverage from Manchester (Not available on Freeview until 2130).

oh well, I wait until half-nine then

  • Awesome GB tarck grunt! Brilliant! :D

  • shame I missed Craig's "controversial" Keirin heat..

An awesome opening day for GB with Golds for Pendleton, Clancy, Houvenaghel, Daniell and Armitstead

Kenny missed gold in the keirin, the french geezer's tactics where spot on. I don't think he would have bamboozled Hoy in quite the same manner, but it's gotta be hard if you draw the bottom lane.

  • Just been watching the GB giants taking the world cup by storm, and all I want to do is go break in to hern hill and ride my bike.

Fuck as a nation we rock the track!

  • gutted I missed the live broadcast last night as I was in a pub watching people getting drunk.

today though, it starts at 2pm and I've got an armchair with my name on it!

  • i can imagine you sitting there, newly sober, all holier than thou.

    it's not a pretty sight.

  • "newly sober" hardly.

I had a couple of pints, tis all.

  • Getting my turbo setup in front of the TV and spending the day getting inspired to train.

  • Here's Chris Hoy with a few tips.
    1) buy crash mat

  • Burn. Crash. Relief.

Some intense training right there, that man is a powerhouse.

  • oh well, another madison fail

    tough looking race, that

  • Nice to see them doing well on their training bikes with the power meters on(!)

  • wicked JKA finals!

    GB 1 & 2

  • and 7 as well - won the minor final - which is nice

  • considering jason kenny had his line blocked off by that dutch bloke in the heats, it was a nice consolation for him to get the 4000euros.

here's the fixtures for the rest of the world cup meetings:

  • and 7 as well - won the minor final - which is nice
