Will 24h radial front be strong enough?

  • Bidding on a wheelset, but the front is 24h radial laced.

I'm not light, and neither is my bike. Do you think I'll be okay on it?

  • tenuous i'd say

  • i'd ride it, and i'm probably as heavy if not heavier than you.

  • tenuous i'd say

What does his shoe size have to do with it?

  • Ive got one of those shimano 105 front wheels, I6 spoke radial... It hasn't broke yet (I'm very light though).

  • Personally I wouldnt.
why not buy the wheel and re-build it with 3 cross?

  • I have a mavic krysium or aksium, its 20 hole radial, i do stoppies n shit on it n its fine, i weigh 14 1/2 stone.

  • Depends on the wheel innit!

Rim weight and quality, build quality - correct spoke tension

Oh and have many potholes you crash into while doing tailwhips off car bonnets on your commute?

  • 95kg, 16 spokes front, holds out fine.. was holding out with 14 spokes fine, when a couple of spokes were damaged.

  • I had 24 radial on the front of the Ribble and there's a noticeable flex when leaning forwards trackstanding. It never caused any issues I just pointing out it was noticeable. No fucking way would I run 16 spoks let alone leave two broken in a front wheel!

  • It's these ones from Roberto:

I'm winning at the moment - the Lord knows why 'cos I can't really afford them. But they do look nice.

I didn't notice any flex in my shamal with 16 or "14" spokes.. though I guess the deep strong rim might have something to do with that..

  • I think they'll be fine... unless you weigh in at 300 pounds.. :)

  • I wouldn't sweat it too much. Adrienne (who is pretty light) rides 24 hole radials all the time. I've spun around on them from time to time and they seemed solid.

I'd be a bit worried about breaking really hard on them all the time, but don't know if that's an issue.

Plus they look awesome (get blades!).

    hehe

  • Mavic Ksyrium front on mine, 80+ kilos and it is extremely stiff, I have never felt it flex or worried that it is going to collapse on me.

    what are blades?

  • Bladed spokes?

Is it a radially laced Ksyrium? Have you ridden a 32h 3x to compare?

And, you said you were fat. I hate you. :P

  • Hang on, the rear wheel is 32h 3x! So you'll be fine... The front is 24h, which should also be fine. If you can get them at a good price than go for it, but otherwise you could probably get one of the guys here to build something very similar.

  • what are blades?

    Bladed spokes?

    yup

  • you'll be fine!

  • Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I will be fine on those wheels.

I'm still winning, so I'm going to go for it.
