Problem with tyre liners

Posted on
  • hi,
I changed my tyres the other day due to the weather getting bad and that my back one was really worn, after considering armadillos or gatorskins and some advice from an ex messenger in the bike shop I went for schwalbe stelvios with a tire liner, the guy said he used that setup and hadn't a puncture in a year and since the schwalbes were half the price it sounded like a good idea,

the tyres themselves are ace and I cant fault them the only problem is the tyre liners. Has anyone had any experience with them because I have had 2 flats in 2 days due to the liners cutting into the tube, I cut them correctly and used insulation tape on the joins as instructed and kept them at about 110psi :/

  • Never cut tyre liners.
    Never buy tyre liners.

You may as well use solid rubber, the ride quality is about the same. Comfort goes down, rolling resistance goes up. They do stop punctures, but IMHO they aren,t worth it.

Search this forum for "punc***es" and for "slime".

  • ah i agree now, not sure how i got talked into it in the first place,
did do a search but couldnt find anything, should i ditch them basically?

  • I tried some for a couple of weeks, but they were too much of a pain in the behind. Ride was awful and they did cut into tubes too. They may be ok for large volume tyres like MTB's and hybrids but didn't give any advantage with 23s or 25s. The Schwalbe stelvio's should be reasonable anyway.
