  • Anyone ever purchased from them?
    Trustworthy?
Needs me an opinion before i spend any money there.

  • I've bought stuff from them (usually TA) with no problems.
It's tillovers local, give him a shout

  • Yeah I think I bought some long reach brakes from them a while back, quick turn around from memory.

  • Just seen this thread. Spa cycles , use them a lot. Never had a problem. They run a double page ad in the C.T.C mag worth looking at if you know any members, as it has some items different to there web site. Phone your order in there friendly and helpful. Currently using pair of there wheels .RIgida Chrina and Zenith hubs.OK not very sexy ,BUT tough and reliable.

  • The customer service of this store is extremely poor.
I would write more but it would turn into a rant that would ruin my day.

My advice is to avoid them whenever possible possible.

  • Crap, I just ordered a chainring from them.

  • Mostly had a good experience of them - stuff sent on time etc.
They rang me up to inform me one product was out of stock and did I want an alternative which was good of them. They did however, on another occasion, send me the wrong bib-shorts (stop laughing at the back!) and it took a longer than necessary phone call to get them to exchange them. When they finally agreed that they HAD sent me the wrong ones they sent out a replacement which came the next day.

They seem to operate, like so many bike shops, a helpful and friendly guy/surly guy staffing system.

Pretty sure I got the surly guy when I ordered some clips + straps from them - "What on earth do you want them for? Get some SPDs..."

Brightened up my day no end! ;-)

  • you should've told them that you are a traditionalist, and, according to their website, they are "the traditionalist's choice"! either that or said in your politest voice "thank's very much for your help", hung up and taken you business elsehwere.
sigh. I just don't get that attitude when there are so many places online to buy stuff from, it's not that it's even difficult to search the web for alternatives.

  • If it wasn't for the fact they've already taken the money out of my account I'd ahve cancelled the order and gone to Dotbike who are more expensive and also only sell the spokes I need by the box.

Still I'd rather have given the money to another shop and will not be doing business with SPA cycles again.

I would not have expected to be spoken to in the manner which I was whether I was irate or not.
I should point out that I have been calm about the whole affair, I just want an idea of the delivery date for the products that I paid and ordered last month. Having the sales person hanging up on me because he couldn't answer my questions and he's "really very busy actually" and "doesn't have time for this" is not the kind of customer service that I would have expected and has tainted my shopping experience.

My business will be taken elsewhere in future.

  • The couple of times i have used them they have been cool.

  • I've got 48h sputniks on order with them at the moment but not paid for them yet. Was also planning to get spokes from them. Hmmm. They were a bit funny when I asked about a lead time for the rims - you aren't waiting for sputniks are you?

  • Their eccentric customer service is notorious . Rumour has it that the shop is shed staffed by Yorkshirmen and Whippets

They do have a tendency to tell you what you want rather than what you need.

  • Maybe that's the traditional element.

  • Just got 100 incorrect spokes, which cost me an extra 10 quid for the hassle (I received SAPIM Race, rather than Strong). Sent an email, will see how they handle it.

  • had no problems with ordering my 2 sputnik rims and received them in good package

  • Quick response, said I could: return the spokes and exchange (they'd pay postage); have the difference refunded; or order the correct spokes for a discount which would make up more than the tenner.

Was very tempted by the third option, but don't think I need that many spares.

  • Yeah but you'll need them one day, polo freak. Do that option.

I'm surprised to read of Object's troubles with Spa, I've always had good purchases from them, but that's mostly been small things like spokes and tyres, not components.

EDIT: PS Sapim Strong are the sinlge butted ones? Tough as old boots they are, absolutely fuck all stretch in em.

I stand by this. Just needed to order some more Sapim Strongs for a new wheel set and I've ended up ordering a box from somewhere else rather than deal with SPA again.

Like I said earlier, I've been to the shop. It's not far from where I grew up. I would still buy direct from them if I was there in person but I will not do mail order with them ever again.

  • My mum lives 5mins walk from SPA, in case anyones interested.
Never had any problems with them, either in person or by mail.

  • hi all are there any good shops in or around brighton for fixie parts

  • Got a pair of rims from them. Dispatched quickly, well packed, and he even knocked the £6 postage off for me.
