  • Do any of you guys have any idea where in the U.K. I may be able to pick up a Stein seatpost sizing rod? Have done the search thing on here but no luck. Google just shows suppliers in the States. My LBS has one but I would like one of my own.Cheers./attachments/2347

  • Just get one of these.

you can measure your seatpost size with one and it also happens to be extremely useful for measureing anying else.

  • Ask your LBS to order a set from Ison Distribution.

But for 60gn you might as well buy a digital vernier, at least you can use it for other things.

  • I find calipers great for measuring seat posts themselves, not to great for measuring the internal diam of the frame though.
The hole can distort up near the top (where the clamp acts). Can easy give you a false measurement.

Same true of the £60 sizing rod - if you look at it, the steps are quite short (around 2cm) and therefore only go deep enough to measure the clamping area. 9/10 on an old steel frame, whatever it says you won't get that size post more than 5cm into the tube. Conversely, if some butcher has shoved an undersized post in there and squeezed it tight to make it work, you'll still end up with a wobbly post. Best solution is start a collection of cheap gash posts of the most common sizes, in fact for £60 you could buy half a dozen System EX alloy posts which would cover all the usual steel sizes. And check the clamp hasn't been over-squeezed before you try sticking anything in there... err if you see what I mean.
