  • i found this a few mins ago, looks like the pin in the half link is popping out, problems is i have no tools or a new link to fix and i need to get to work tonight for 10pm with a 30min ride from hackney, can anyone help in the next couple of hours.
sorry about the pic, camera phone is a bit shit

  • Does the pin go all the way through both plates of the half link ?

  • No tools at all? If you could scrounge pliers or mole grips you could squeeze it back in.
Failing that, find a house-brick and a rock; put the brick on the opposite side from the protruding link, then smack the sticky-out bit back with the rock.
    Plan B: TAXI!

  • Plan B: TAXI!

Exactly right. Hit it with a Taxi, works every time.

Almost certain to crush the link :(

  • @tynan - the pin is just short of coming through on the side you can see, the rest is sticking out the other side

@platini - tried squeezing with pliers but failed and no rocks in sight, new build you see...
about plan b, i finish at 4am and cabs will cost a fortune

Not enough clarity for me !

  • Does the pin go through both plates of the half-link ?

    yes

  • yes

    one second I feel a drawing coming on. . . .

  • Ok, which one looks like what is going on with your half link - looking from above, pins are orange, plates are blue - the camera in your photo would be looking from the bottom towards to the top in these illustrations.

  • if i knew how to use a bloody computer properly i would have done one for you from the start, would have much easier

  • you been working on this all afternoon Tynan

  • Thought of one other option !!

  • you are making this so much fun... E

  • you been working on this all afternoon Tynan

Yes since around one o'clock, I just knew this question would come up.

The prune told me from her well deserved grave. :)

  • did she tell you to 'phone homeā€¦'

  • you are making this so much fun... E

    Right ! You need a chain tool ! :)

I genuinely can't think of an easy way to get the pin in without crushing the link - if you had a spare inner link you could perhaps put into the gap (X) to support the plates and stop them being bent/crushed - and gently try and tap the pin through with a hammer ?

  • Tynan, you are too helpful not to be a Northerner; or is that yet another myth exploded?

Too strong a mix of double (ish) negative and non-sequitur to compute accurately.

Don't let BMMF see your 'envited' !

I don't think it will hold, even taking it easy :(
