Next time I head to Scotland, I know where to look first for a bike.
Not too many wide open spaces in Larndarn for proper MTB riding.
Good effort though.

for some reason.. i like that Trek!

I'd say:
The best looking is the Bianchi (is'nt that usually the case);
The best value package is the Orange, as it has decent components throughout;
the best performer (XC) would probably be the (most expensive) Kona big unit; and
my fav is the charge (although I'd upgrade a bit over time ie. swap the fork for 100mm sus) as it is has a great frame, is great value, and it has an EBB.
Plus charge come from the westcountry like me, so dey be clever loik
(ED: just realised that my comment on the list is itself a list, must take more
-screen breaks,
-sleep,
-meds,
-drinks,
-long relaxing bike rides....etc) -

How about this one. Singletrack or Cruiser?

bitter.
it's actually the first list i've found useful - there's plenty of places to go off-road just a short train ride from london.

Just added this Van Nic.
With a rigid carbon fork and V-brakes its not ideally suited to extreme off-roading, but this also means its lighter than a fart. Bet its a blast on the trail/ XC riding!

Cant believe I did'nt have a Genesis on there (although the list real fooking incomplete).
They make one of the best (+ affordable) OTP bike ranges around.Genesis Flyer = great OTP fixed.
+They do a alfine hub geared version of this MTN bike, which I seriously considered before deciding to go ss.

It ain't a langster!
Brixton Cycles didn't have the OM Flyer in stock when I went in. I ended up buying this, and it ain't too bad:

GBP240 (2008 model on sale)I will let the chaps/chapettes determine whether this should be on this list

Lots of the latest recomendations are custom builds from framesets, so I will put the framesets here.

Which is horribly out of date :(
Working on it. -

If I had the money today, I'd be straight out to buy a SS MTB.
Skinny tyres aren't up to many inches of snow. :(

They might work today (cutting through an inche or two snow to road underneath), providing you dont turn to quick. Most likely be a totally different story tommorrow though ;)
Ironically I'm riding to work on dry road, being annoyed by the sound of these.

Actually, I like the look of that Airnimal Rhino....never seen one of those....tho it lookslike it won't run fixed, which is a shame!
-

This should be fixable. But not as nice looking as the rhino IMO.

Added the carver bikes.
They look like some seriously smart cookies.I liked the 650c wheeled Killer B. I hear all the time how this should have been the standard wheel size for MTN bikes, and as a short guy building a 29r, might have been a good chioce for me.

That rocky mountains nice!
Pricey, but then it has a nice frame and a decent spec.
They've really tucked that back wheel in. -
