  • Firstly, apologies, I'm drunk and I'm bored cos I'm waiting for my dad to pick me up to go to Manchester and then Jamaica and have no idea what time he's supposed to be turnin up.

Anyway back to the the thread topic... The only 'punk*' I've ever seen on a bike is some guy at Wasted festival in Blackpool on a Condor Pista. Actually no, he was the first punk I ever saw on a bike. But out of all the punks I've ever seen, I've only ever seen 5 on bikes: seen the guy who runs the punk & ska night at Scruffy Murphys in Brum; the lead singer of Intention; the guitarist in the Dead Offenders; the girl out of Cupid Stunt; the girl whose late boyfriend was in Contempt/Police bastard. That's all. You'd think that more punks would ride, cos, well, catching the bus is rather 'establishment' isnt it, whereas bike=freedom, bike=fuck the rules, go where i want etc.

*I know that's open to interpretation but I mean people who seem to live for punk music, might be in a punk band, definitely dress like punks all the time, and wouldn't complain about being pidgeonholed into the 'punk' category. People who look like this but less fake.

  • i think we should do a telephone poll of camden residents. to canvass their attitudes towards punks, bicycles, interesting books to read and what they do in their spare time.

  • hehe :-)

right my papa is here, i'm off to that sunny, crime-ridden island. if i aint back in 2 weeks consider me shot or burnt to death in plane crash.

  • Lloyd Grossman is in a punk band that are actually still about..

I'm not sure if he rides a bike

  • Are you Lethal Cunt Bag's alias? He's a serial starter of pointless threads too.

  • i see loads of punks riding bikes all the time. dressed in suits.....

  • that bloke looks a bit of a cunt, I hate that crouching-down sort of thing some people do when playing the guitar. He's doing that, the cunt.

  • because were to busy not giving a shit.

  • Cos punk is dead?

Punk is not a current movement, while lots of recent music and sub genres may be inspired by it, and many people are fans of punk music.

The fact is we are in a eclectic-age (one post-punk by at least a couple decades)

More than half the cyclists I know are fans of punk music, but they would cringe at the idea of being labelled a punk, its an Irrelelavant/outdated terminology. How do you define Punk / Punks today? I think very few people could be classified as one now, at least in this country. They sell Ramones t-shirts in Hennes, is someone in a ramones t-shirt a punk? or does it have to be GBH?

I think the few people who do the full dress-up , mohawks etc, just have an obsessive attraction to a particular image. So they follow the known doctrine of that archetype. Which does not especially include a bicycle.

  • Punk?

    Spunk, more like.

  • wait 'til Bill gets hold of this, I'm sure he can add to this list..as will Caspar:

    Robin (Bianca's bro)
    Walshy
    the Deadley Treadleys
    Team Spyder
loads of other bands who've played Rollapaluza....

    "bike=fuck the rules"...I didn't know that!

  • object and seb have got mohicans, they ride bikes. what's the fuckin problem?

  • I can't believe we're being lectured on punk by Lethal Cunt Bag. What's next? asm on how to remove cranks? Or peterandbrian on how to sell stuff on here?

  • "Stick it to the MAN with a Fixie!"

    next years langster marketing campaign

  • Yes, Punk is dead....punk was an idelogy....about being home-made, about being different, about being creative, talent was not necessary

There are some bands around today who are punk-flavoured but are playing formulaic music that has been around for over 30 years....not very different, if you dress like a "punk" then you are wearing a uniform and the antithesis of what punk means.

the last youth movement to be punk in attitude was probably Jungle or Rave.... IMO
