Loose Sprocket

  • Ok, so I went to skid to a halt the other day and the backward pressure on the rear sprocket caused it to slip, disconcertingly, about an inch.

The bike was due a minor service at Evans, free mind, and I mentioned it. They were supposed to Loctite it, which I've no doubt they did, but the same thing happened today.

So, how do you get that sprocket to stick like a motherfucker to the rear hub, so I don't have to worry about this heart stopping event happening again?

  • scary shit man, very scary.

Loctite??? WTF, the way to resolve this is with a locking ring, a chain whip/locking ring tool and some man's balls in the proper place.

Do you have locking ring? no, get one, if need it get a proper hub.
Yes, thigh that bitch properly into place.

maybe the thread of the hub are fuck, but the the Evans guy should have mention something about it.

  • its called a lockring you need one.

  • +1 rik and cris

yup, had it on 2 bikes.

    1. Rotafix the f**k out of the sprocket http://204.73.203.34/fisso/eng/schpignone.htm
    2. check you have the correct lockring (i had on with a small lip, wasn't gripping to the sprocket)
    3. tighten that with a chainwhip

I wouldn't glue it unless the threads are ruined.

    • make sure you have a proper track hub NOT a road hub.
  • SEARCH is what you need, not locktite or anything else.

  • repped ed.

  • Thanks for the sound advice. Bog off to the last one.
