work at it with you hands (wiggle it)... i even push it further through with the chain breaker, then back into possition.

That is what the 2nd position is for on the chainbreaker.
Once you are happy with the pin, showing on both sides of the chain use the 2nd position to push it back a tiny amount which will remove the stiffness. -

when i reconnect a chain with my chainbreaker, i am often left with a link that is tighter than the rest. after some miles it loosens, but id like to be able to avoid this altogather.
how do i avoid getting a stiff link?
