Ramsgate to Oostende

  • Anyone ever taken a bike on the ferry via this route? Cycling to Brussels at the end of the month, and can't seem to find a company who take anything but cars!

  • Have you only looked on their website or have you phoned them up and asked. Websites are quite often missing information.

  • yeah called them up and it seems unbelievable that there are no ferries which take foot passengers, with or without bikes to either zeebrugge or ostende at all!
The guy on the phone told me to go to France and cycle from there! I could go to Hull and get the ferry with my bike to oostende, I am in a mild state of shock, what should be one of the most bike friendly routes to the continent is not, at all.

  • Strange! I though all ferries took foot passengers. Learn something new everyday.

Well Oostende to Brussels is 115 km acording to goodle maps and Dunkirk to Brussels 159 km, so 44 km or 27 miles difference so I guess it depends on your time constraints. good luck sound like a nice ride.

  • Hello.
I know this thread is nearly six months old, but did you make it to Brussels? the reason I was asking is I am planning to do a simmilar trip this summer myself, maybe even as far as Cologne?
The first problem I seem to be facing is getting the ferry across with a bike...
From what I have seen in other forums is that the nearest crossing is Dunkirk? has anyone done this?

  • I cycled to Oostende from somewhere in Germany to find... the Oostende ferry does not take bicyclists - I think because they don't take foot passengers either.

The easiest way around that I found is just to go via Calais - it's about 60 miles of easy riding, through some quite weird Belgian coastal resorts.
