What will happen is that an influential forum member will slate it and all the minions will come along and rate it badly.
This place gets more communist by the minute.

What are ratings?
The forums allow you to rate threads between 1 star (terrible) and 5 stars (excellent). Once enough votes are cast for a thread, stars will appear next to its name in the listings. These show the average vote, and can be an easy way to see which threads are worth reading if you are on a busy forum.
On the forum viewing page you can also arrange threads by rating, with either the highest or lowest at the top.
It therefore makes sense to rate threads because it helps all users. To do this, click on the 'rate thread' link at the top of the thread viewing page. Choose the number of stars you feel best represents the quality of the thread. You may or may not be able to change your choice of rating at a later date.from FAQ

Thing is, it's those shit threads that seem to have been started by 12-year-olds with learning difficulties (offence intended) that often turn out to be the most entertaining, due to the amount of caustic witty comments they attract...

My ten pence...
Negatives: Seems to be a lot of talk recently about whats wrong with the forum and not enough getting on with it. Surely forums are for debate not rules. I got pulled up the other day for posting something about a jingoistic TV presenter on the BBC in misc and meaningless the other day when I was just seeing if anyone else could believe what dire TV the BBC were broadcasting. Anyway, point is personally I used to love the photoshopping and piss taking but that seems to have had an lot of navel gazing added to it. I guess when forums are small they can be all things to all people but as they grow they get more and more marginal.
Positives: Far far outweigh the negatives but to me the main ones are there a lot of very funny people on here that share ideas and help where required and also the huge database of information everyone has built up. Personally this place has give me the confidence to take a bike apart as I know someone will always have the answer to a sensible question. Also, everyone seems pretty clued up in other areas (music, cooking, guitar making). It's all here.

VB,
For threads which aren't of the caliber which i usually start ;)
Is there a way of deleting it off the face of the forum if we rate it a 1 star enough times?say 10-20 people rate it 1 star... or more?
Shin
Ignore the thread.

Ratings should guide people into finding the good stuff, not sway people away from other stuff.
Be positive rather than negative.
