Ken Ryall frame

  • HI All
I'm new to this business and, after opting out of the cycle to work program, have decided to build myself a fixed gear bike.
I went to Kiwi cycles and saw a Ken Ryall frame that was my size and seemed pretty light yest pretty strong for £100.

I read the other thread relating to these frames and I'm now worried I might be paying too much! I have to say I liked it and I loved the gritty basement, and I don't think I'm being ripped off, but I want to make sure I'm not paying a lot for a frame that might not be all that...

    Any help appreciated!

  • Ive never heard of Ken Ryall. But £100 for a track frame, from a shop. Seems like a bargain.

  • paul @ kiwi is a good bloke he sells some nice stuff my guess the frame won't be a crap one

  • That's the impression I had. Really enjoyed hanging out there and would rather spend my money in place like that tbh.

  • I'd second that for Kiwi. Good place, run by good folks.

why you suppose is a track frame?

  • El toro de osborne?

  • Oh, the frame didn't have any numbers anywhere. Paul said it's probably reynolds tubing and built by Witcomb, but hasn't really checked it...

  • si, si el toro...

no, I was asking if was a track frame or a conversion, last time I been to Kiwi, Paul only had road frames.

  • It's a road frame indeed, with horizontal dropouts. It's a nice frame... I think I should just get it. I trust that guy for some reason.

  • £100 is quite a lot for a 2nd hand road frame that is only probably reynolds tubing. £45ish gets you an 80's 531 frame on t'bay. Have you checked out if Tour de Ville have anything in you size?

  • if paul thinks it's reynolds and witcomb then paul should check it by ringing witcomb and asking them.

and 'only reynolds tubing' seems a bit harsh when 531 was the standard for many a year and still rides like a dream. what else would it be in the days of yore? uranium?

  • Yeah I saw that! I know there aren't a lot of his frames around but like Bombadil says, it might be a bit pricey? It also needs a to be repainted, which is another £80.
    What to do...

  • I think he already did and the reply was that it was probably them, but like I said the frame has no numbers.
