• Ijust chased off someone who was trying to steal your brooks pro.

    Red conversion,
    brown saddle.

  • karma is goin 2 slap u hard 2moro at 3pm . . .

  • Eh?

Anyway, walked past it again and it's now gone, sorry.

  • good work h2o, good on you for trying

  • that's shit,well done for trying.

  • Yet another reason not to have a Brooks! (oops!)

  • Good skillz on not just walkin by!!!

Its possible to use a pitlock to secure the saddle to the post

  • use a chain....as in a drivetrain chain looped around a seat stay and a rail...it's what "messengers" in NYC do, therefore it is cool, therefore do it!

con: makes your bike a little heavier and scratches your paint....seatstay pads anyone?

  • You can Pitlock your seatpost but not your saddle... Good work h2o, you did your bit... Hate Brooks saddles anyway...

  • Just use torx rather than allen heads

Yes you can. I did whilst I was using my brook swallow

Just run the chain through an old length of inner tube - it'll stop it from scratching the paint and it'll also make it quieter.

  • and rivet the seat to the seat post.

  • I always stick a plastic bag on my seat when locked up on the street. It keeps the seat dry if it rains, and it makes the bike look shit. And it stops potential thieves seeing the word titanium, which is written on the side.

Do you have a red framed conversion (?) that's often parked at the top of Lamb's Conduit St?

  • I weld mine on. If I need to raise it, I just scoff a load of sweets, goes stright to my arse.

  • Turd said he saw some guy wheeling a red conversion minus saddle/seatpost somewhere near kentish town. Flickwg shouted at him to 'buy a saddle and ride your bike'.

    Same guy, maybe?

  • Seatpost was still there, just took the saddle.

The thief was a fat white bloke, couldn't place his accent, but wasn't local, northern or southern, as I know those pretty well. Might have been Scottish or Northern Irish, I often get those two confused. Huge red umbrella with a very deep brim, had it down right over his head standing by the lampost so most people couldn't see what he was doing, but I could see he was unscrewing the seat bolt. So reached over and grabbed his wrist and said 'Is that your bike, mate?', to which he said 'yeah, it's mine, i'm just fixing the seat'. I told him he was talking crap and he kept on saying ' it is mine, the key's in my pocket' while backing away from me, before abruptly turning and hightailing it into Chinatown.

Wasn't really sure what to do, as I was with a friend and we'd bought tickets for a film, and I had no clue who or where the owner was. So posted here in the hope that it might ring a bell with someone, or something... Didn't achieve much, clearly.

Am popping down Brick Lane tmrw morning to look for some old handlebars and brake levers, am curious to see if I run into the guy.

  • if you do, kick him in the barse.

  • What I'll do is try to find the market warden and have a quiet word.

Didn't Roxy get in touch with the warden at some point? Can anyone remind me which thread the contact details were in?

    Edit - found it now.

  • He was just saving someone from the traditional Brooks Arseraping(tm).

    Don't start mate, you'll get a ribbing like I did! ;-)
