i think any shoe that you can wear year round you will need water proof over shoes on for the rain.

shimano WM02 ( ithink that's what they are called? they have a neoprene cuff round the top and are goretex. water will eventuallyl get past the top if you don't wear waterproof trousers.
they are very warm in winter, no need for thick socks. -

These work a treat too. I have some of the old version and they have lasted quite some time.

I bought some Sealskinz waterproof socks for £15 this Summer.
They feel like they have a tissue-paper interlining, dont stretch or fit very well, but work amazingly.
Still wearing my cheapo shoes! They have breathable bits, hence get soaking wet, but if you stuff them with newspapers twice during the day its OK...
The answer you are looking for is SIDI, surely? EDIT - or the ones ma3k posted. badass. -

I use the Altura neoprene overshoes which work quite well but by nature all these shoes have a a hole in the bottom of the sole and that's much harder to overcome.

Hi all - Chris Crash and I were comparing notes last night and it seems it's very hard to find shoes that are much good in the kind of weather we had yesterday morning.
Is there a shoe that you have found is the best of a bad bunch? Is there a particular model you think have outstanding performance in the rain?
I wear Pearl Izumi Vagabond - they're cheap and very good value but notoriously porous. But apparently some of the more expensive ones aren't much better...
