  • the puncture repair thread got me thinking.

what's the best use you make of an old inner tube?

I'll kick off - when I was travelling in east africa, we used old innertubes, cut into strips and knotted together to tie large parcels up with.

  • With the right skills, one could fashion them into attractive pouches for the storage of tobacco, marijuana or coca leaves.

  • puncture repair patches.

  • as a sling. when you are out riding and happen accross some unfortunate who has fallen off, done in their shoulder/collar bone and their mates are standing around doing nothing usefull. this has happened to me three times.

or thin strips can be used as rubber bands to hold stuff. funnily enough i use these rubber bands from an old tube to tie a new tube onto my saddle. ah the birth and the death.

  • chris whipped gabes in the face with one once. I (like most people) attach my polo mallet to my bike with one.

  • indeed, i am now blind in one eye. Also, Magma sell skate belts made from old tubes.

  • Mine is the best idea. "bring in the gimp"

  • i put them on doors to quite the noise it makes when it slams, play tug of war on them, or hit gabes with them

  • My dad used one of mine to make waterproof washers when he was attaching the roof panels to a greenhouse. Cut out large discs using a sharpened piece of metal tubing then made holes in those discs using a punch. Quite resourceful I thought.

  • tomas, that bag is made by alchemy, and is wicked.

a friend of mine have it and is solid and very nice, tempted to get one, but price is high.

Also from them a lot good stuff make from recycled inners

  • if thats really made of tubes it must weigh a ton.

Imagine the weight of like 20 mtb tubes.

  • imagine the weight of 20 mtb tubes in that bag... the mind boggles...

  • Cliveo's post is numero uno.

  • I confess that they are tyres rather than inner tubes but she did not acquiesce to my suggestion that I should replace them.

  • he's right you know, i hadn't even noticed.

  • i have a belt made out of an old tube.. with a toothed clamped type buckle. works ok... maybe a little bit stretchy

  • saw some fella using a length of old mtb tube as a removable, easily stashed top tube protector, grippy for leaning against lamp posts and the like.

Given your propensity for "builders bum" and your belt's contribution to it, it doesn't work that well.

  • You can use them dangerous filler in your toolbox - they obscure some of the heavier tools lying at the bottom, and when you get frustrated and yank them out the way, they can propel sharp bits of metal across the room or onto your foot.

Old lengths of bar-tape are also good for this purpose.

Did you miss a word out from that sentence, Mr. Grammar Nazi?

  • Who gives a fuck. (rhetorical)

Anyway, Platini's the grammar Nazi, not me. I'm all about pragmatics - I would've hoped you'd have inferred that by now.
