Akashi Keirin track

  • went for a wander around Akashi (town where the Ocean frames used to be made), and came across this Keirin track near the castle.

Having never even seen a normal track before, this one seemed to have crazy high banking. (the photos dont seem to do it justice)

anyway, im trying to find out when they have races here, to try and watch, should be fun :) its just a small track, not on the big pro circuit, but must still have a bunch of races.

    a few photos for ya:

what it looks like from space

  • I don't know much about velodome and such but if the track is smaller, would the high banking compensate the smaller size of the velodome?

  • dunno.. it was only a 250m track, so i guess you need the higher banking.

  • i think one end was steeper than the other.. looking at the pics anyway.

  • Wasn't the Olympic one 250m?

Think that's quite standard - not that I claim to know anything about anything, you understand...

  • 45-47 degree banking, 250m seems the standard these days

  • oh right.. cool.. like i say, its the first track ive seen :)

  • Herne Hill is 450m. Which makes me think that 250m would be tiny.

kinda like a nascar circuit, not that I know anything of yanks sport involving car going in circle with lots of sticker on them.

yeah, at least 200m smaller ;)

HH is just big, that's how the outdoor dromes were.

I can't wait to get down to calshot and catch some real G-forces , it'll probably make me ill. with that steep banking, imagine how quick the changes are! proper.

  • and, shockingly, people do race things other than bicycles on velodromes....even radio controlled cars.

    the bastards

  • what else
