Whitcomb Track Frame

  • I have just seen a Whitcomb track frame for sale in a LBS and am wondering what is a good price to offer - does anyone have any ideas?

It is a fully chromed columbus track frame, 120mm dropouts... In good nick as far as I could tell.

Asking price was £300, but I think I could bargain down...

  • sigh
Search on here for 'Witcomb'. Or Tony DaFoney. You'll find an extensive and sporadically entertaining range of comments and info. Of the top of my head the price sounds about right...

  • Thanks...ish

Most of the ebay links from the other threads are now dead, so hard to find a guide...

(and I did search under 'Whitcomb' rather than 'Whitcombe"!)

  • sounds like a good price to me, if it's in good nick. snap it up.

    Platini, you're a miserable git.

  • Witcomb no 'h'
    It's a pleasure -ish

  • as nimbles said, sounds good. buy it now.

  • Platini, you're a miserable git.

Actually I'm a famously miserable git, I'll have you know, you cheeky fucker...

  • Is whitcombe OTP? If not do they do an OTP? I've got nine hundred quid to spend on something, anything.

see it could be worse Platini..

    Buy these magic beans...

  • Aha! MANY thanks Platini...

    That'll make the search easier...

  • there was a story about beans when I was a kid, something about a guy having a chat with them.

    what was it again..

  • Just to confuse there was a frame builder called Billy Whitcomb from the Wirral. So there are a few wHitcombs about. I have a red one. Billy / Barrie

This must be a collectors item

  • I like it. It's 753 and has been taking me to work and back for over 2 years. Never managed to find out much about Billy other than from Barrie who had heard of him. A drunk bloke outside the Wheatsheaf in Borough Market told me that Billy used to have a stall on a market in the Wirral. That's all I know. Nice heart shaped cut out lugs - but like a De rosa type of thing.
