Haha, beat me to it.
Aside from the stuff that's just plain absurd (e.g. "There's nothing worse than doing a five-mile cycle ride in a pair of jeans, especially when it's hot or raining"), that article has the biggest "DUH!" factor I've seen in a while. People who don't already know they can pedal standing up should stick to riding at 10 kmph in parks.
The list was pretty contrived as well. The author must've had a bad case of writers' block or something.

I love this comment from Thomas, Cardiff:
Standing up; the one fact which I remember from cycle proficiency training is that you should never, ever, stand up. The trainer even went as far as to say that standing up to cycle off after the end of the test would result in an instant fail. I can't comment on its effect on cycling efficiency, but from a cycling proficiency standpoint, it's apparently a big no-no.
He's like a man-child.

NoGears. The way forward (or not).

The writer was probably ordered to write something along those lines by some editor with the harebrained idea that articles like this help the BBC fulfill its educational mandate.
Meh.
Though when you read the comments you realise that the article probably was educational for its target demographic.

comments box is censored aswell!
They shouldve put together a simple article on commuter cycling advice for newbies getting out of their cars.
Nothing wrong with putting down basic info for those who need it, but there trying to apply things like slip-streaming wtf? Under the hype of team GB...
I think I may write a commuting guide, with special attention to bike choice and setup.

WTF:
Old myth about toe clips. Pulling up on pedals uses energy so yes you will go faster but you'll get exhausted quicker. Only useful if racing and want a dash sprint so Tour De France yes, high street no.
