Is this a repeat?
I saw a 4 part documentary about Mark Beaumont a few months ago on BBC Scotland.

Me too, that's how I found out about him. Did a bit of googling and came across this.
Dirkbang - don't think so, didn't mention repeats on his web site.

I think it is. I saw the same thing on iplayer but as you say it was only aired in Scotland.

If it is then it was a decent documentary... although with a rather over the top commentary.

Been watching this today, pretty interesting but I don't really like the whole world record side of it. Seems to be more about the record than the cycling. Not sure about his Rohloff, would have been easier to use normal gears and fix them with normal tools you carry. Rather than being stuck with a fucked Rohloff in some random desert somewhere.
I read a book by Alastair Humphreys, who also cycled round the world. Only he took 4 years to do it. Sounds like he had a much better time, Staying with strangers, spending time in each country etc...

He's a friend of 3 scottish mates of mine here in Bristol - he's always been quite physically fit, but this was at another level apparently.
Two of them went to France to cycle the last leg of his tour around the world with him... didn't get to see the second part of the program so I'm not sure if they're in it, but who

That show is on bbc iplayer - which, by the way, is fucking awesome

I saw it and tbh honest after about 10mins in I thought 'what a fanny!'
Spent £2,500k on his bike and got 3 punctures and a spoke snap in 24hrs! Not only did he not check his bike properly before he left but he failed to find a shard of metal in his tyre hence him getting 3 punctures!?
Plus he was constantly whining about shit foodstops. Mate, you're cycling through Eastern Europe, what did you expect lobster and caviar every stop - which ironically enough wouldn't have helped as he was veggie! Nearly in tears cos he had to eat fish! I'm no long distance cyclist but it's fairly obvious pasta and high carbs food is what's needed, or atleast stuff yourself with Mars bars! Got a cold after a few days too....fanny! -

funny, my boss being scottish mentioned him the other day and when i told him that he quit being veg he lost all respect for him. Dude had a nutritionist with him, wtf can't get it sorted with your own personal nutitionist ...hmmm
-

yeah bloke did seem to be a bit of a drama queen the 6th day in when he got a puncture ..... the whole record attempt was over it was a disaster he was heading home..... 5 mins later he was back on the road .... dopey git
well i guess he's gotta make an eastenders type programme about the problems, rather than focusing on the good bits, otherwise nobody today would watch it we would all rather focus on the bad things than look at the good in life ! -

He was alone for the majorty of the trip. He met up with the film crew and other bods only a few times, throughout the months he was on the road.
I watched it first time around up here in Scotchland. I didnt take to the guy, but I respect his efforts.
Im have to laugh at some of the comments on here, he cycled round the fucking world! in record time, kudos.

He's a jock, whinging's in their blood more than the English. Still fair play to him. Only caught the last 10 mins last night wouldn't fancy that final run into calcutta massive potholes, mud, puddles and trucks.
He was a bit of a dopey cunt though, never heard of a buckshee and couldn't work it out after another poor injun makes a begging motion and sez it to him.

he took some damn fine photos.

I think you should be allowed to have little braeak downs when you're on your own in far away from home and physically tired. even if it was only day 6 I know I've had hissy fits over simples things when I'm tired and everything seems to go wrong and I just can't thread a nut and bolt together for example.
Jim Jones. What is buckshee? I've never heard of it, but I would not say I'm stupid. I bet there are plenty of things I know and take for granted that you don't. That is the way knowledge goes. In the heat of the moment it can be very difficult to work simple things out.
Admittedly if I were to ever grow the balls to cycle round the world on my own I would not do so at such a pace but I have enough respect for this guy. Mammoth task and one not without some serious challenges and dangers.
+ve rep for the guy.

big ups to him - agree that it would be more interesting/enjoyable to do the trip slower, but each to their own
anyone notice that the nose of his saddle was bent down pretty much vertically, Im seriously starting to worry about my guys after seeing that and the post on here about the american cops a week or so ago

Watched it last night, really enjoyed it.
I wonder how much riding he did on the bike fully loaded before his attempt, seems not very much.
I wondered why he didn't get that saddle replaced.
