250km (or so) in 3 days, fixed.. am i mad?

  • so. ive got a few days off work, and my plans to climb Mt.Fuji have been scuppered. I need a bit of an adventure!

is this idea gonna kill me? a 3 day trip around Lake Biwa, from Kobe.

its flat for most of it, but 60km (in two hours) is the longest ride ive fixed.

(to make life easier, i can just get the train to the lake, and then its a much easier 2 day affair)

  • bearing in mind that i dont cycle everyday. this fixed is my first 'road bike' (coming from MTB/bmx).

48-16 gears, with bullhorns. and yep, i have cycle shorts

  • Eat lots, drink lots, take a break for some photo snapping and you should be fine.

You'll certainly find out if your bike is setup correctly :)

  • thanks!

  • just stay in kobe and eat beef

  • Don't listen to nimhbus, his arse is still healing from the pounding it took riding to Oxford..

  • a meal of Kobe beef is a days wages! lovely as it is, its a treat!

  • Long on the first, short on the second, medium on the third.

  • 52 miles in one whole day is really nothing...most couriers do more than that 5 days a week, with no real effort...

excellent way of showing off about the fact that you are in Japan though!

  • I'm sure you are mad, but not sure if that is a cycling-related condition
    ;0)

  • mad? only if its raining

  • 250km is a shade over 80km a day, so say 40km in the morning, lunch break, then 40km in the afternoon...That's 2 hours or less per "session" even at a gentle cruise. Doddle.

    Wear decent shorts...

  • No, madness is riding 200mi/day for a whole year. Anything else is just plain old cycling.

  • pete what work do you do..? I think its so cool that you get to live in Japan

  • Some might say that of you, Frenchie :)

  • moi, je fait le television par satellite http://www.eutelsat.com/home/index.html

  • in boiling hot, humid, japan weather???
    good luck!

  • I think that is Totally Rad Pete... do it. Listen to Hippy and finsbury pete what you're planning is going to be heaps of fun and you'll have a real sense of accomplishment once its done. I am envious.
