Screw on freewheels

  • hi

is it possible to use a screw on freewheel on a double fixed track hub?
if yes then do you use a lockring with it or how does it work?

screw on freewheels are currently confusing me alot so any advice would be appreciated.

[sorry if this has been covered in another thread - i couldn't find anything]

  • yes, you can screw it on, don't need a lockring.

  • the more you ride, the tighter it gets. No reverse unscrewing to worry about.

  • thanks
    one more -
how would you space this for a good chain line, im presuming this meens the frewheel screws on right up to the hub...

  • sorry i forgot to mention im talking about a singlespeed screw on such as this -

  • yeah, just screw it on, it'll be fine.

  • amen

  • useful note:

you do not need any tools to install it.

  • if you need to space it ask your LBS for freewhell/hub spacers, only cost pence. They're like big washers. If it sits out too far without any spacers, there's not much you can do barring respacing your hub and redishing your wheel, and that'll throw out the alignment of the other side.

  • thanks,
im hoping that i won't need to redish the wheel as, as you said, then the other side won't work.
But with any luck i can space the freewheel a little further out and use spacers on the chainring.
Ill just have to see how it works out when my new hub arrives..

  • try not to use spacers on the chainring, not a good idea

  • ah!

ok then ill avoid that method, thanks for the warning..
