  • ...but after going out for a fag break i noticed that someone's locked what can only be described as a junk bike on the other side of the railing to my beloved whip and blatantly looped their lock around my top tube, locking my bike to the railings and their bike as well...

An honest mistake, or a not-so-subtle attempt to make me leave my bike overnight and angle grind my locks?

  • cut his lock and take your bike

  • What kind of lock?

  • keep an eye on it all day, at the end of your shift if its still there cut his lock

  • cut his lock and take your bike

If you do, maybe lock his bike back up (if you can) with a note saying what happened.

  • Sketchy as fuck...
Might be worth giving the rozzers a bell for some advice.

    EDIT: What horatio said.

  • If it's still like that when you need to leave, do what tikastefano said.

Which is what Chris Crash said, but with recognition of an earlier post ;)

what planet do you live on? Rozzers? like they'll give a fart.

  • What kind of lock?

Abus chain lock - probably worth more than the bike.

Will just keep an eye I think, but action will have to be taken at 5:30 if it's still there. Thing is how am I gonna cut a fairly befty lock?

  • grinder is best, if not then long bolt croppers.

  • abus chain locks go in seconds with bolt croppers

  • You anywhere near a fire station?

  • Could go either way.

Still, I reckon you should just kill their lock and move your bike. If you accidentally lock onto someone else's bike then I'm afraid you get what you deserve.

Sounds dodgy to me, using a decent abus on a crap bike.

Can you get hold of an angle grinder and extension lead? If so, cut the lock off and leave a note. I wouldn't go to the trouble of putting another lock on his/her bike, cos that'll only get cut too.

  • lol fuck the lock go through the frame that ill teach them!

I'm a law abiding citizen and my first instinct is to inform the authorities.
You are quite right though and depending where it is locked up, i suggest bolt cutters as darkness falls and retrospective note if you get through.

  • Where I work has a workshop that has some good saws... not sure we've got a bolt cutter though. Will keep you informed...

  • might be an innocent mistake as there are a lot of numpties out there. i would be eagle-eyed if i were you though

  • I heard this was a trick used by bike thieves to make you leave your bike overnight, either that or a total dumbass. I'm inclined to go with the 'cut his lock and free your bike' option. He/she wont do that again if it's an innocent mistake, plus u get your trusted steed back.

Good luck whatever you decide. Interested to see what happens.

  • yeah maybe if you cut their lock and put yours on it, with a note, you could come back to unlock theirs when they call. that'd be the good egg thing to do.

@Broker sorry - I was a bit shocked that anyone would suggest a pig might give a fuck.

but then they come back later with their angle grinder and fuck up your £50 quid lock :/

  • Grind their lock, leave their bike locked up with a cheap chain/padlock combo with a note.

Only potential problem is if they want compensation for the abus.

  • Tough titties, I say. A mistake it may be, but what if you couldn't wait until 5:30?

Compensation!! Nah JimL, the only thing they should get out of this is the knowledge of how to properly lock their bike in the future! EEEEdiots!
