Wanted: Rear rim

Posted on
  • Hi guys

I bought my first single speed last week after having my mtb half inched. I bought a raleigh clubman for 70 quid, and have been loving it.

However the rear wheel is wobbling like a drunken bitch, and its getting more and more annoying. I assume its the wheel because the frame is fine and the wheels are tied on tight.

Ergo I want a rear rim for my bike. I guess they are 700 23´s, I wondered if anyone has a spare rear wheel sitting around they´d like to sell for me. Im just north of kings cross, will travel.

    Cheers

  • Theres nothing wrong with your rim by the sounds of it.

Just true your wheel, doesnt matter if you havent done it before it very easy.

  • when i turn the bike upside down there is signficance give, like if I hold the wheel so that its not turning, i can wobble it from side to side, would trueness problems cause this, or would the wheel still be stable at the hub, it would just move around as you turn the wheel...?

  • Couple of guys in Mechanics and fixin think it is the hubs...and probably unsalvageable... so if anyone has an old rear rim which DOESNT wobble, im still interested!

is this the front or back we talking about?

Again your rim sounds fine, and your hub migh well be too. If your familiar with servicing hubs, look to see if the bearings are ok then tighte up the cones.

If your not, and the wheel is a basic one. Just try get hold of a complete new crap but working wheel, soemthing free ideally.

Which I guess is whatyour were asking for, but saying you need a rim makes it confusing.

  • Sorry, you´re right, I want a working wheel! I will have a go at the hubs out of interest, but there is quite a lot of give, and it doesnt look simple from what i´ve read
