jeez RPM - ordering Brian to decompose is a bit harsh, no?

Installation error is the usual cause. Could be dodgy chainline but SS so I assume 3/32 in which case you can get away with a shitter chainline.

or possibly too chain too tight / badly fitted chainring?
I did this on a langster, only afterwards realised that the chainring was offcentre. chain went slack then tight, then slack on one revolution. If you fit the chain too tight when the chainring is at a "slack" position, then rotate, it gets the chain overtight and will snap it pretty quickly.

It'd have to be pretty fucking tight. Did you not notice it binding and growling like a wounded dog every rotation??

I like half link chains and turtles :D
also what size is your chain ring? I had a similar problem and it was a combination of a slightly off chain line 52t chain ring and 175 cranks. It used to pop of when I was starting off at lights etc, after several starts and stops trying not to fall off looking at the cranks I noticed there was a slight flex in the cranks when starting off and because of the slightly off chain line it was just enough to make the chain hop off. Maybe your chain is quite tight already and has no room to hop off and breaks...im rambling now cant remember what i wrote and i need tea ....cant be bothered to check for engrish and sense

exploded john Woo style?
I had the same as heal minus the tea-deprived ramblings. Its easy to spot 1. put your hand in your pocket, buy a decent chain and 2. when you put it on rotate the wheel checking the chainline and tension.

it was a langster.
ive had two chains on my ss conversion which have both exploded and come off. very annoying as they were riding very smooth when they were still attached.
admitedly they were both used and stolen off of my spare parts bikes.
is this a result of an un-straight chain line, or should i just splash out for a new chain?
